If you live in America – go vote today.

Bring your kids, wear your yoga pants, have your hair in a pony tail, wait in line – it doesn’t matter. Just, please, exercise this freedom to vote.

A couple years ago I was called for jury duty – I grumbled the entire week before, and the morning of, and even as I walked into that crowded jury room. Then they showed this video, this kind of cheesy video called Jury Duty in Minnesota and then I started to get a bit teary-eyed {doesn’t take much} while watching it when they started talking about what a privilege and honor it was to be able to partake in the jury system in this way and that it should never be taken for granted.

what i proudly am wearing today.

It’s the same with voting.

It’s a right. An honor. And your vote counts. Do not take this right for granted.

So today, take a moment, be intentional, and go vote.

Thank you. I totally agree. I hope all who can, who have the ability, and even the inclination to vote will. It matters.

LOL! That’s exactly what I did, yoga pants, mommy bun, and child in tow. The 7 year-old told everyone there this was his first time voting. They even let him slide the ballet into the machine, it was a very exciting moment for him!

I totally agree with you! Great post. I live in Australia where it is compulsory to vote, otherwise you incur a fine. I vote not for fear of a fine, but because I cherish the fact that I have this right, that I have a voice and that we live in a democracy. Many people here hate the fact that voting is cumpulsory. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain, in my view. So many people in so many countries would love to live in a democracy and have the right to vote. So many people have died fighting for the right to vote. Don’t take it for granted. We are all watching your election process very closely here in Australia and it is all that is on the tv at the moment. Is it true that only around 30% of US citizens vote?

I took my 3 year old daughter and then we made a day of it and went to the mall just to throw pennies in the fountain. As a bonus all the Christmas decorations were up. Then we went to Starbuck’s and I got coffee and she got a pink cake pop. It was a great day.

I am a mom of two under two. I took my 23 month old daughter and she cried the at she couldn’t vote too! Madison vote too? I am so glad I made that decision. She will know that I care enough to go and take her and her brother. Such an amazing powerful right.

Praying hard right now!
Psalms 40:1-4a I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust…

I’m leaving for the Relevant Blogging Conference in fifteen minutes. My heart is racing, and I’m nervous. But above all, I am grateful. Anytime the nerves attempt to take over I remind myself of this gift to go, of my sponsors generosity {Ashley Pichea and Sarah Mae}, the generous gifts of others, and of my family’s encouragement and support. Thanks for your prayers and “you can do it comments” this week.  I’m grateful for you as well.

I’ve prepped the house, folded all the laundry {I know, can you believe that?} and signed autographs on the back of my business cards for the kids. I’ve finished my powerpoint and talk for the Replenish Conference.

I think I’m ready. Or, at least as ready as one could be.

And these guys? Boy, am I going to miss them. But, I’ll be back real soon — and my prayer is that I return a better wife and mother with a heart even more focused on the Lord.

Oh, and by the way, Friday Favorite Things will be up tomorrow. I wrote that post as well — and I love it — it’s one of my favorite ones ever. Hope you’ll join in.

Blessings on your Thursday.

Rachel

So much to look forward to! Your best-ever post tomorrow and your trip!!!! Love ya and hope your time is a sweet sweet blessing. Looking forward to hearing the 4-1-1 when you get back (is that expression still cool? Or are the early 90’s asking for it back?!).

Hope you have a great time!
These verses contain the reason why we have the hope of life to come. Know that I’m here praying so hard!
Ephesians 1:17-20 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places…

Do it well.

That’s my motto right now.  Whatever I do, no matter what, I want to do it well.

With all of my heart.

Be it diaper changes.  Correcting algebra. Teaching phonics. Cooking dinner.  Wiping spilled milk. Mowing the lawn. Listening. Cleaning the kitchen. Folding towels. Playing a game. Sweeping the floor. Driving to ballet. Talking with friends. Reading a story. Handling conflict. Raking Leaves. Ordering coffee. Vacuuming. Picking up toys.

There is contentment found in enjoying the moment.  It’s a peace that so easily slips away.  I want to be aware  of this time, of the posture of my heart.  Am I racing to finish? Or am I recognizing the blessing in the task? The time?

Like now.  I’m blessed to hear Hannah reading to Elijah — his sweet body nestled against big sister as she lovingly reads.  I’m loving my coffee.  The warmth of the mug that my hand surrounds.  There’s joy in watching little Samuel take those quick steps between chairs — and the happiness he shows. I hear my older boys creating an elaborate story upstairs.  And there’s beauty as the warm October morning sun shines through my window.

I’m grateful.

****

By the way thank you for all of the encouraging emails and comments yesterday.  You blessed me.

And, just in case you’ve had some itching for a picture of Samuel — worry no more — here’s one of my new faves. And, no, I haven’t cut that baby hair — yet. 🙂

Well tears filled my eyes….I do miss those days…that song that says “you’re going miss this” is so true. To go back for one day and have them all back at home, hearing them small again, would be so much fun.
Instead I will enjoy today…my cast boy and I are going to go play while older brother is at co-op…I will text the other four and reminded them one more time I love them!
Enjoy!!!! You are blessed

I’ve just read through all your posts since the girls night out, last time I commented…oh, sweet mommy, you are blessed and you are so real! You know what gifts these children are, but you also know what hard work they are…to those who are given much, much is expected…you are doing what you can with you have…right here, right now…and you are doing it well! I LOVE TO READ YOUR, OH SO REAL, POSTS!!!!!

Blessings to you for a wonderful week-end!

Thank you for sharing this. I am trying to be more “in the moment” when I am with my kids, to notice the blessings as they are happening, not miss the stages once they have outgrown them, but I am still learning.

P.S. We also have seven kids (though not as young as yours!) Also three girls and four boys AND we have a Gracey and an Elijah and our “Josiah” almost was named Samuel…it was the runner-up! Funny how our name choices are similar!
