why instagram is awesome for moms.

by Rachel Marie Martin

I confess
I love instagram
It’s a beautiful way to document the everyday moments.
These pictures aren’t really about perfection.
They’re about celebrating the little things – little moments that matter.
Smiles, icecream, treats, favorites, laughter, family.
It’s like my scrapbook from years past.
There are no rules – it’s you, your camera, and your choice of filter.
So moms, grab your phone, take a couple pictures, document life.

Finding joy
One sweet pic after another.
These are some moments from the week (in 2013)
that I captured with instagram.
{all pics today from my instagram feed find me at @finding_joy}

Moments of Accomplishment
This is the craft project
{that I got at Target for 50% off}
that my daughter Grace made one afternoon.
It sweet to look at it and remember her hand doing the stitching.

Moments of Being Real
and support
like for
Praying Pelican Missions
which I absolutely love and am super proud to support.
And who provided me with my very cute shirt yesterday.
(And who sponsored my trip to Haiti in June 2013)

Moments of Memories
like watching your seven year old
play on the same frozen pond
that you did when you were young
which makes me remember those days of lacing up my skates
and playing hockey with my dad
in my white figure skates.

Moments you want to Remember
such as sweet three year olds
tucked into bed at night
pretending it is a for
and using that favorite flashlight book to read books
when one should have been sleeping.

Moments that Make you Laugh
{and someday might make you cry with nostalgia}
like these silly swimming goggles
that Samuel found and decided to wear
around the house in the middle of a Minnesota winter.
Love, simply love.

Moments of Learning
We love these free
Angry Bird Printables
{made by my very dear friend Jolanthe at Homeschool Creations}
that made my boys thrilled
and made learning absolutely fun.
And you must get a laminator – a total favorite thing.
Here’s the link to my laminator
Scotch Thermal Laminator
please note, the link is an affiliate link, and it’s for a product I love – used it today. Please read my disclosure policy for full info.

Moments that just make you Smile
like the intense concentration
on a cute five year old
as he figures out the next question to ask
when he plays the game
HedBanz
with all of us
{which is just like 20 Questions}
so sweet.

Moments of Surprise
when my friend pops over to Starbucks
while I’m writing
and I get to hold her babe
and get to chat and laugh
over a grande caramel macchiato.

Moments Recording Words
that love and inspire
and encourage
and you don’t want to forget
especially when they’re on my coffee cup.

Moments of Sweetness
like playing with Legos in the morning
and making up stories
and imagining
and just being a kid.
These are the moments that moms can capture with instagram.
Sweet, real, everyday, beautiful things.

Simple snapshots, memories captured from the everyday moments of life.
Instagram is truly awesome for moms.

Thanks Mary. I’ve really enjoyed instagram. I didn’t know what to expect when I first started using it, but honestly, it’s one of my favorite apps as it’s a peek into my everyday. It’s really the things I want to remember.

This is lovely!! You use photos to tell such beautiful stories!! (I love how you often make me tear up just a little reading your posts!)

I’m curious as to whether you’ve ever used Heritage Makers?? http://www.PowerOfStory.ca (Heritage Makers is an online personal publishing company that publishes high quality products you design yourself from your own photos, either from scratch, or from 9,000+ fully customizable templates.

Based on reading your blog, I feel like you could be the poster-woman for Heritage Makers products … you are an inspiration for me!!!!

Just a thought … Did Instagram determine if all your photos can be used by them for any p romtional purpose? I know I deleted my account when I found out all ‘my’ photos were legally considered theirs. On a positive note I absolutely love your blog. I have never come across a blog that is so honest and real and uplifting. I look forward to all your posts.

Oh I adore this post and I adore instargram too. I am terrible at scrapbooking or photo organizing and even my blog is mostly thoughts, not pictures. But I love instagram because it captures little moments in real life that then you can see whenever you like. It is the best mommy thing.

I love instagram…it makes capturing everyday moments simple and quick. Always using my DSLR makes pictures more complicated and time consuming…because I am always striving for perfection. Instagram is just as it is and I don’t feel the pressure to make it perfect. I love that 🙂

My daughter Chelsea made the same raccoon…she LOVES it…her and I have a thing for raccoons since I started reading her the Kissing Hand the night before her first day of Kindergarten at a twice a week homeschool academy. She is in 5th grade now and still loves it! 🙂

Love this post because you know I love all the photos you post!
Still here! Still praying!
Psalms 36:5-7 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast. How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

Can’t believe how much spam there is on here tonight! Wish I could just delete it for you!
Know that I’m always here praying!
Psalms 17:6-7 I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
