Finally.
We arrived on Monday, stayed in the er for 7 hours, ended up staying as an in-patient in the short stay unit for 4 days (because the hospital was full and diverting patients due to the high number of rsv cases), got isolated in our small room so Samuel wouldn’t get rsv, charmed many awesome nurses and doctors, and had many moments of bonding time with me.
Samuel experienced Celiac Crisis — when the body needs to have a mega dose of steroids to stop the inflamtion in the intestinal track so that it calms down. He was on an iv for fluids till yesterday. We had to have the wound care team work with us to clear up his diaper rash. We saw a nutritionist, and child-life worked with us to create the best environment for Samuel in such a small, small space. So so so many people came in our small room to check on my Samuel.
Samuel was also depleted in critical vitamins — namely zinc and vitamin D. He was barely absorbing nutrients.
That was an experience. If it wasn’t for my wonderful nurses (who let me cry on their shoulders numerous times) I don’t think I could have held up there. Thanks for all the prayers, and words of encouragement.
It’s not easy to hear that your child has an auto-immune disease. In fact, I’m sure I’ll be dealing with those feelings in the weeks to come. I’m so grateful that those doctors could help him. So grateful.
Thanks again for your love and prayers.

You and your family absolutely have our prayers. Do you follow Humble Pie. The writer, a Christian woman, has Celiac as well and has a few recipes and has talked about living with it on her blog.
I have been thinking about your family and sweet Samuel often. I will keep you in my prayers.

What a precious picture of your sweet Samuel. Glad to hear the doctors and nurses were able to treat him and that they were of comfort to you. What a blessing <333
Oh, dear Rachel. I have been thinking about you and worrying about Samuel all these days. I am so grateful that he seems to be getting better, and is home with you now. I honestly had no idea that celiac disease could be so debilitating. I’m sure you didn’t either until now! Anyway, you have a long road ahead of you I’m sure in relearning what Samuel can and cannot eat, but I know you will be awesome. Get some rest and hug that little boy. xxoo
I’m so glad you are home. Take a breather and love on your babes. In times like these we just want to hug and not let go. You are a good Momma, keep it up!
I am so glad you are home now. I know Samuel is, too. There’s no place like home, ya know. 🙂
I can imagine how scary this whole ordeal must be for you. There is nothing more terrifying than finding out your child is ill in some way. And anything that affects their diet is particularly frightening. Tucker’s food allergies consumed us for so long. You have no idea how many things contain wheat and eggs until you can’t have them! But let me tell you this…you will adjust to these changes and Samuel will adjust, too, until it is simply life. Just the way things are. And you will have be at peace with it. It WILL get better. 🙂
I’m glad to hear you are all home safe! Poor little guy! Poor Mama! Here’s to a speedy recovery and lots of smiles!
So happy to hear that precious Samuel was well taken care of! May the Lord give you strength, peace and wisdom as you move forward with this diagnosis. Take it one day at a time. I have a cookbook headed your way… Hope it will be helpful! Can’t wait to hear about Samuel getting back to himself and anxious to see pictures of him playing and all energetic. : ) Love and hugs to you!
Still praying, glad you are home. Will be especially remembering you as you begin this stage of adjustment!
Glad to hear Samuel is doing better! I just read this post that reminded me of you and your hospital visits… http://bostern.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/writing-from-the-waiting-room/

I’m glad to hear that you’re home and that Samuel is okay!
I’m so glad you were surrounded by a carrying team and received the help you and Samuel needed.
So glad you’re back home! Hugs to you both!
Praying the rest of this journey will be smoother and that this life adjustment will also go smoothly. I have no doubt that you will just add this to your list of testimonies to what our Lord continues to do for you and your family. Blessings abundant to you and yours at this time.

I, too, am so glad to hear that you are home now. I am so sorry for all that you and your family are having to endure, but trust that just as God brought your husband and family through cancer, He too, will bring you through this. Thanking God for the tender hearts of the nurses as they held your hand through your hospital stay. God uses many to encourage us and help make the path a little easier. Keep looking to Him and there you will find everlasting peace….
Keeping you all held in prayer.
Much love,
Stacy
Poor little guy! Poor Mommy! So glad you are home.
I know this will be a difficult transition for you all, but I keep thinking that even 5 years ago there wasn’t the amount of gluten free food out there that there is now. And it actually tastes pretty darn good!
Keeping you in my prayers!
Been praying. love you all so much
So glad he’s doing a bit better and you’re able to be back home… hospital stay can be sooo draining.
Praying for you and your little sweetie!
so glad to hear you are home safe! No wonder Samuel charmed many nurses with that lovely face of his!
continuing to pray for y’all… God Bless!!
Love,

So thankful Samuel is home and doing better. May mamma’s heart breaks for yours. It’s so rough seeing our children go through illness. I know that God is going to take you by the hand and lead you and guide you in this new life of Samuel’s. He will bring you much wisdom, revelation and understanding. You have so much support. I will continue to pray!
I was thinking of your sweet Samuel today and am so glad to hear this update. Praise God for gentle nurses, wodnerful dr’s and tears. They can be so healing.
Sending you both a big {{hug}} and my prayers for healing, comfort and rest.

I hope Samuel just gets better and better as his gut heals. I’m so glad you’re home. You’ve been on my mind so much.

Look at that face! Oh what a sweetheart! But gotta ask…what’s up with the hanger?
Know that you’re always in my thoughts and prayers!
