what mothers do

friday favorite things | finding joy

Dear {Real} Moms
you watch those little ones grow
and the one you call your baby
{even though he’ll be three in September}
will all of a sudden look huge
when he holds your dearest friend’s one month old
{and of course your eye’s will well with tears when you see him growing up}
and you are so grateful to just be there with him – sharing life

you read and read and read
and read again
and again
and again
the same book
all because you love them so much
{and even though you have it memorized}

you celebrate family
and find joy
while they gather around the table
thankful for each one who calls you mom.

You let your kids dress up
and wear funny glasses with the lenses popped out
and slick their hair to the side
all for some fun {and candy} at Grandma’s house.

you teach them their letters
and to read
and to write
and to spell
and to love

you give of yourself
and give of what you need or want
just for that sweet look of joy
when your littles open the present that
they always wanted
for you the greatest gift isn’t in getting but in giving

you {on the brave days} let them jump
in the big muddy puddles
and try not to care about all the laundry
{even though, gasp, who doesn’t think of the laundry}
and laugh while they splash and jump and make a mess
and you just let them be kids.

You look forward to sharing your childhood traditions with them
like going to the lake every summer
and riding on the boat
as the sun sets
{even though your little one is just a bit unsure of the whole boat ride} thing
you are passing on life
generations

You pray.
And you pray.
And you pray some more.

You’re used to half-eaten apples
sitting on the fruit plate in the kitchen
and aren’t afraid to take a bite
of that already tried apple.

you moms, are real moms,
the moms who don’t have everything perfect
but are content with the little things
like the relationships
between your littles
life bonds.

you see being a mom
{which is a favorite things}
as a beautiful
noble
lovely honorable role
 to be blessed to hold
you try so hard you listen you work
you are a mom.

and on Mother’s Day
enjoy the gift of being a mom
in those little things in life
the smiles, joy, laughter, work, tears, giving and more
a mother
a mother’s job, her day,  is beautiful.

a mother gives
for them
and that?
that is true love.
forever love
only a mother’s love.
And these? They are just a few of my favorite {what mothers do} things.

It is a beautiful blessing to be a Mom – enjoying those little moments…that grow memories beyond the here and now and grow a foundation for the generations…we may not know!

Truly, a picture is worth a thousand words. These are priceless, especially the last one of your “whole crew.” What I’d give to meet all of you.

You should write a book and entitle it: “The Joys of Motherhood.” No joke, you make motherhood such a joyful journey, even in the not so joyful situations.

May you be crowned “Queen for a Day” this Sunday. A joyfilled Mothers Day is wished for you!

Happy Mother’s Day to you. My, did you ever capture what it is to be a Mom with words and pictures. Thanks
I agree with Lea, a book is a definite idea to pursue.
Blessings to you this Mother’s Day!

The blessings of being a mom are almost overwhelming when I sit and think about them. I enjoy sitting back and watching my brood. It makes me sigh with contentment as I watch them play, read, sing, and laugh together.

Thank you for sharing so much of your heart. I’ve been encouraged and challenged in so many ways reading your thoughts about being a mom. Earlier this week, I spent yet another night on a pull-out bed in my daughter’s hospital room. I’ve had times in the past that I could count the blessings in spite of the medical challenges. This week was perhaps harder than any of the others — big hopes sometimes lead to crushing disappointments. Instead of crying last night, I posted pictures of the fun memories from our trip as my first Friday Favorite Things. I pray that I’ll remember those moments and not the disappointments in the doctors’ offices..

Being a mom for over 30 years has given me a sense of fulfillment that the career I had trained for never would! Thanks for posting Rachel and letting us see a glimpse of your take on Mommy hood!
Have a wonderful and blessed day!

Oh your pictures are precious! My favorite is the one of your little boy with the oversize glasses! Yes being a mom means we pray, and pray and pray! But I wouldn’t have it any other way! Patsy from
