An ode to Miscellany Monday.
Written at 11:34 pm.

Oh, Miscellany Monday, here you are again….
sweet blogging day
a day of what – evers
Who knows what it will bring.

Oh Miscellany Monday, you are the best
fun, laughter, joy
mixed with memory
Beautiful thoughts.

Oh, Miscellany Monday, how I love you.

1) I was never good at poetry class.  I tried.

2) My major in college was Architecture.  I can draw.  I am creative.  I have a pile of plans I’ve drawn for our home showing how I would add on — if I could. So I guess along with being creative I can dream. 😉

3) While studying architecture I studied Italian.  My dream was to live in Italy for several years.  I passed my proficiency exam.  I have not lived in Italy.  I can, however, order my food at an Italian restaurant perfectly.  Sometimes I even teach the waiters the correct pronunciation.

4) I also studied Interior Design.  Therefore, when I watch shows — like HGTV’s Design Star — and see terrible design I cringe and cover my face with a pillow.  I think my girls enjoy watching me cover my face and wait for that moment to happen.  They’ll exclaim, “Mom’s grabbing the pillow!!”  Tonight’s show?  Exceptionally and painfully bad.

5) I play classical piano.  I’ve been playing since I was four.

that’s me playing — Samuel was 2 weeks old.

6) Once, when I was in sixth grade, I played Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata for a piano recital from memory.  However, while up front, in a room full of over one hundred parents and relatives, I forgot where I was in the piece.  So I began to improvise.  I kept playing, and playing, and playing until I remembered where I was.  Then I wrapped up Moonlight Sonata and took my required bow.  Rushing back to my seat, I sat down and smiled.  My grandmother, who was also classically trained, winked at me and said, “that was the longest version of Moonlight Sonata I’ve ever heard ,dear.” Then she patted my hand, and gave me a hug.

7) I miss that grandmother.  She died one week before my daughter Chloe was born.

8) Chloe’s middle name is the same as my grandmothers.  Her name?  Laurella.  A combination of Laura and Ella.  Chloe looks like my grandmother when she was young.  My grandma was beautiful.

 my Chloe Laurella

9) I’m writing this at 11:54 pm.  Samuel will be awake at 1:30 am.

10) Speaking of Samuel — he’s cutting all four top teeth at once.  As I wrote on facebook, I think he’s trying to over achieve.  And speaking again of Samuel — remember to enter my give-away for your own Teething Bling Necklace.  You will seriously love that necklace.  My goal for entries?  At least 100.  I’m close to 70 — so if you haven’t entered, do so — that way I can make my goal.  (I like goals — so click the enter my give-away link.  After you leave a nice comment here!)

Samuel with my Teething Bling

Impressed with this week’s concise Miscellany Monday?  As am I.  Must have something to do with it being 11:56 pm.  And Samuel waking up at 1:30 am.

Remember, remember, remember (because I don’t say forget – read Target Statements) to link up with Carissa’s Miscellany Monday. Link up.  She’s awesome. 🙂  I’ve also linked up with the mingle monday thread –check that out as well.

Blessings on your Monday!!

i think you’re a good poet. miscellany monday liked its poem!

okay, i’ve been so unimpressed with design star this time. i feel like courtland could be really good, but he keeps messing up. the curtains and the bed were beyond terrible last night.

teething is so mean… hunter’s getting his molars and he has resembled a bear these past few days.

hope you get a nap today! xoxo!

I could never ever (sorry for the negative!) memorize any of my pieces for my recitals…especially on the violin. I think it came from the lack of motivation to do so, but memorization has always been my weakness with music!

I need to watch Design Star. My sister keeps asking me (literally 14 times) if I am watching it. She has baby brain-my little nephew was just born over a week ago, so I will let it slide:-)

Hope you have a wonderful Monday! I can feel you pain with the teething. Tell Samuel he needs to stop waking up like that-he’s a big boy now! haha riiiiight huh?

Heather

P.S. I would TOTALLY make you a headband if I didn’t use the last of my ribbon on mine 🙁 Maybe if I get the chance to go to that antique store again I will grab some more! Ok, I’ve written a whole post for a comment!!

Poor Samuel. I hope his teeth come in quickly and painlessly.

Chloe is so beautiful and I love her middle name.

Oh, I just entered your giveaway. I wished I had my own baby to give it to if I won, but alas, if I do, I will gift it to someone!

Anyone have any extra hours in their day that they’d be willing to give to me?  Lately it seems as if I’ve got more to do than I have time.  I’m blaming it on the garage sale I’m having this week.

So here goes — my Miscellany Monday.  (Written late on Sunday night.)

1)  2 Teaspoons does not equal 2 Tablespoons.

2)  4 inches of rain in one night creates a pond in our backyard.  While this may not be good for the raspberries I just planted (35 plants) it was excellent entertainment for my two boys ages 4 and 6.  That entertainment turned into entertainment for me — their romp through the puddles created an extra load of laundry.
3) 2 Tablespoons of baking soda in a cake that requires 2 teaspoons creates quite the, how should you say it, unique flavor.

4) There are no birthdays in my home for the next two months.  This is extraordinary as we have 9 birthdays that we celebrate in our home.  The birthdays in our home are in – January, February, March, April, June, August, September (2x), and November.

5) Prior to Samuel, everyone in our family had their own birthday month.

6) Samuel was due October 3.  He was born September 25.  If he had been born in October, then everyone would have had their own birthday month.  I was fine that he was born in September — I was tired of being pregnant at that point.  I just wanted to hold that sweet baby.

7) Still wondering about the tablespoon and teaspoon fiasco?

8) Speaking of birthdays, all my daughters were born in the first half of the year and my sons in the second half. And again, prior to Samuel, all the girls were born after 12 noon and all the boys before 12 noon.  Samuel decided to be born at 3:12 pm.  Again — I was okay with that arrival time.  I really, at that point, just wanted to hold that sweet boy.

9) The cake that I ruined?  Hannah’s birthday cake.  Though her piece was edible with a pile of whipped cream. Lots of whipped cream.

10) Appearances can be deceiving.  Look how beautiful that cake looks.  You’d never know that the homemade chocolate cake (made with vinegar and no eggs) had all that baking soda.  Hmmm….there could be a life lesson in that.  Or at least a post. And knowing me, I’ll be writing about it later this week. 🙂
Have a blessed Monday!  And don’t forget to link up to Carissa’s Miscellany Monday.  I’m praying she’s getting some good rest and enjoying her sweet Sage.

Haha…wow. It’s terrible when you mess up a recipe like that! It makes me so mad at myself! 🙂 For me, my big epiphany in cooking was “Eagle Brand Milk” does not equal “Sweetened Condensed Milk”. Yup. Something about sweet macaroni was just not right.

It’s crazy that all your children are so spread out…did you try to plan it so they would all have their own months? If you did, you’re like a fertility samurai!

HA! I’ve done something very similar baking soda…although mine was 4 tablespoons instead of 4 teaspoons!

Our family birthdays are July, August, September and October! And, that’s the first time I’ve ever thought about how they fall in a row. Neat!

Just when you think you have it all figured out, leave it to the baby to shake things up : )

ps I’d still eat the cake slathered in whipped cream!

Your Tablespoon/teaspoon story reminds me as to why I do not bake more. I remember all too well the many times I’ve ruined cake, cookies, etc. by NOT paying attention to the measurements (and I think I was trying to pay attention, call it a brain freeze). I love how you have birthdays through the entire year. How fun is that. In our household, we have them in March, April, June (2x) and July (2x – me and hubby).

Have a fabulous Monday!

Just so you know…the whole birthday situation gets a LOT more complicated when said children grow up…and get married…that doubles the number of birthdays! And then there are grand kids…not even gonna go there!
Know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers!
Isaiah 12:1-2 And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee: though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou comfortedst me. Phew….what a busy weekend.
Wedding.
Birthday Party
Cleaning.  Massive Cleaning.
Baptism
Confirmation
Party
Gardening.
Re-cleaning (is that a word?)
Thank goodness it’s Monday!
And with it being Monday comes another totally random edition of
Miscellany Monday.
1. Chloe was confirmed yesterday.  My mother purchased 1/2 sheet cake.  I thought that it would be way too big.
I was wrong.  Terribly wrong.  Buttercream frosting paired with an exceptionally moist cake will not last in this home.

start

10 minutes later

2) This is a picture of some of my favorite things.

Iced coffee (it’s close to 90 with high humidity)
Garden Trowel
Gloves
3) These are my irises. I used the above stuff to plant them.
(last year)
I love them. Love them.

4) Yesterday I put in a huge raspberry garden.  I’m talking over 30 plants.  Later that night I took a shower — I was covered in mud.  Then with wet hair I went to bed.  This is what my hair looks like in the morning after sleeping with wet hair.  (This is not what it looks like after I straighten it.)

can we say curly?

crazy hair

I am not straightening it today – not with ultra high humidity.
The world will just have to deal with my
big hair.
 5) Samuel did not like me taking pictures of my hair.

enough pictures!!

5 seconds later

Thanks, Carissa, for putting together this meme.  As a random person — this helps me get those thoughts out!
Link up — be random!

Love the button?
— my Hannah designed it —
her momma’s proud!

Thanks for your comment on my blog! I actually saw your post and your hair before I wrote about mine! The humidity is part of the reason I gave up on straightening my hair, but I’ll probably still straighten it every now and then.

Poor Samuel! He definitely loves his mommy! I loved that post that you shared several days ago – how Samuel just wants to be with you, and how we, in that fashion, just want to be with Jesus. So true! Thank you!

I can relate to waking up with crazy hair. I don’t know what happened, I used to be able to just wake up and run a brush through it and it would be fine, but recently it has started going curly on me. But then if I try to wear it curly for the day, it just ends up looking terrible 🙁

Wow, you had quite the weekend. Congratulations on Chloe’s confirmation. Looks like a yummy cake! I love iced coffee, especially in the summer months. I had to laugh at your hair. It would take me all day to deal with that. I can’t imagine how long it must take you to straighten it. Although some days I wish I had curlier hair. Hope you had a great day!

You know people do pay a lotta money to GET curls…and you get rid of yours?!
Glad your little one’s baptized!
Always praying!

Cake never lasts very long at our house either! And my hair can be pretty scary if I go to sleep with it wet…I don’t do that often!

Re-cleaning, oh yes, it’s a word…kinda like “re-shoveling” while it’s still snowing, lol!!! Love all the crazy fun of your weekend…oh, and BEAUtiful cake, it inspired me to order a special one for my daughter’s party next week (I usually just make one or grab one at the grocery store)!! I’ll make sure to post pix of it next week!
