I have been doing everything I can to add (sneak) nutrients into Samuel’s food. His appetite is small — so I need to pack what he does eat with vitamins. And fat. And calories.
(thank you everyone for all the excellent suggestions for Samuel.)
Here are some pics of his favorite berry smoothie. Make that the entire family’s fave. 🙂
Yes, he does actually get some of that smoothie in his mouth.
Want to know what is in his life juice?
Frozen berries, a couple handfuls of organic spinach (love Costco’s huge box for $3.99), lactose free milk (they’ve taken Samuel off of lactose for 3months), a couple organic bananas, and powdered Kids Super Food. Later today I’m going to pick up some protein powder (whey free) to add some more calories. And I’m going to start adding a spoonful of organic coconut oil.
What else would you add?
(thanks Hannah for all the pics of sweet Samuel)
And I have nothing but raves for the Super Food for Kids. My sweet relative (hard to figure out the exact connection so we’ll call her my cousin in law removed somehow but yet related) Alissa picked up this fabulous powder at Whole Foods for Samuel. He’s had it every single day.
And how is Samuel doing? Better. He’s on an antibiotic — which seems to be helping. We saw the pediatric allergist yesterday who told us (within 5 minutes of us meeting him) that he really believes Samuel needs to see a pediatric immunologist/infectious disease doctor. It’s scheduled now for February 22. The goal is to get to the root of the fevers and infections and to strengthen his body so that it can heal from the Celiac Disease. His gut is so weak that his body has no immune reserves to fight off infections.
So, until then, I’m going to keep making those life juice smoothies.
Keep praying.
I’m am so grateful.
Make that mega grateful.
In fact, I’ve had many emailing asking if they could add Samuel to a prayer list.
Absolutely and totally yes.

I would add a probiotic, if the doctor okays it.
What a sweetheart. Praying for this little fellow and you all.

I would add flax seed if you can. Coconut oil sounds good. That sure does look good!
I need some of that stuff!!! Yum! Samuel sure loves it- I love seeing those pictures – he looks better, not as tired! But just as cute as always! I’d add the flax too if you can. Buy it in bulk; it’s way cheaper. Praying for your boy and the appt on 2/22 (that’s easy to remember)!!!
…and you can make great popsicle smoothies for sick kids or on summer days too.
Yogurt for the probiotics to heal the gut. (Is yogurt considered lactose free?) Flax seeds–you can buy some that are ground already so they are so nut like. Acai berry–has lots of great antioxidants. I know our grocery store and health food store carries packets in the freezer section by the frozen fruit and it tastes yummy.
Juice plus has some gummie vitamins that are great for kids. I hae friends that swear by them for keeping their kids well.
Does he like mashed potatoes? If you boil the potatoes with some carrots and mash them together, using a little of the boiling water you get orange potatoes which my kids think are fun. Kale is a great addition to the smoothies too.
Another thing that you can add into this juice is juice from raw vegetables. Take any type of veggie throw it into a blender add in some liquid and blend then put the mash into a some kind of strainer, I use a type of cheese cloth bag, and squeeze out the juice and add this into your smoothy. Very easy on the digestive system and packed with a whole lot of nutrients that Samuel needs. Sweet potatoes are one of my favourite and very tasty.
Praying,

What adorable pictures and little Samuel is definitely looking better. Praying for continued restoration of his little body. Blessings!
What a sweet little face. So glad you are finding delicious recipes like this to help your little man. I’m continuing to pray for healing for his poor little body.
Those may be the sweetest pics I have ever seen! Love to you wee one!!!
Did they doc ok the protein powder? I half-heartedly overheard friends saying it may not be healthy for under 18 years? They may have been discussing another protein drink, but I would double check it.

continuing to love that amazing face!
Here praying as always!
Psalms 18:28-30 For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
