An ode to Miscellany Monday.
Written at 11:34 pm.
Beautiful thoughts.
1) I was never good at poetry class. I tried.
2) My major in college was Architecture. I can draw. I am creative. I have a pile of plans I’ve drawn for our home showing how I would add on — if I could. So I guess along with being creative I can dream. 😉
3) While studying architecture I studied Italian. My dream was to live in Italy for several years. I passed my proficiency exam. I have not lived in Italy. I can, however, order my food at an Italian restaurant perfectly. Sometimes I even teach the waiters the correct pronunciation.
4) I also studied Interior Design. Therefore, when I watch shows — like HGTV’s Design Star — and see terrible design I cringe and cover my face with a pillow. I think my girls enjoy watching me cover my face and wait for that moment to happen. They’ll exclaim, “Mom’s grabbing the pillow!!” Tonight’s show? Exceptionally and painfully bad.
5) I play classical piano. I’ve been playing since I was four.
6) Once, when I was in sixth grade, I played Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata for a piano recital from memory. However, while up front, in a room full of over one hundred parents and relatives, I forgot where I was in the piece. So I began to improvise. I kept playing, and playing, and playing until I remembered where I was. Then I wrapped up Moonlight Sonata and took my required bow. Rushing back to my seat, I sat down and smiled. My grandmother, who was also classically trained, winked at me and said, “that was the longest version of Moonlight Sonata I’ve ever heard ,dear.” Then she patted my hand, and gave me a hug.
7) I miss that grandmother. She died one week before my daughter Chloe was born.
8) Chloe’s middle name is the same as my grandmothers. Her name? Laurella. A combination of Laura and Ella. Chloe looks like my grandmother when she was young. My grandma was beautiful.
9) I’m writing this at 11:54 pm. Samuel will be awake at 1:30 am.
10) Speaking of Samuel — he’s cutting all four top teeth at once. As I wrote on facebook, I think he’s trying to over achieve. And speaking again of Samuel — remember to enter my give-away for your own Teething Bling Necklace. You will seriously love that necklace. My goal for entries? At least 100. I’m close to 70 — so if you haven’t entered, do so — that way I can make my goal. (I like goals — so click the enter my give-away link. After you leave a nice comment here!)
Impressed with this week’s concise Miscellany Monday? As am I. Must have something to do with it being 11:56 pm. And Samuel waking up at 1:30 am.
Remember, remember, remember (because I don’t say forget – read Target Statements) to link up with Carissa’s Miscellany Monday. Link up. She’s awesome. 🙂 I’ve also linked up with the mingle monday thread –check that out as well.
Blessings on your Monday!!

Hey Rachel… so glad you visited me the other day; I finally got to return the visit! I love the look and feel of your blog, and I take my hat off to you, super-mom extraordinaire homeschooling AND blogging!? I won’t say ANYTHING about the SEVEN, my sister has EIGHT, so hey-ho (who am i kidding? I’m amazed!)
xx
I love design star! i need to watch this weeks episode now!
Love miscellaneous posts! 😀 Both of my children are in piano. Did you ever go through a time of not wanting to play anymore? My children are. We aren’t stopping though.
Stopping by via Mingle Monday! 😀

um, i want to be you! : ) or at least have studied interior design and be able to play piano. oh and speak italian.
i think you’re a good poet. miscellany monday liked its poem!
okay, i’ve been so unimpressed with design star this time. i feel like courtland could be really good, but he keeps messing up. the curtains and the bed were beyond terrible last night.
teething is so mean… hunter’s getting his molars and he has resembled a bear these past few days.
hope you get a nap today! xoxo!
WOW! what a gal you are!! So talented in so many areas, how impressive. Thanks for stopping by and blessings to you for a wonderful week! THink I should register for the bling teether since my granddaughter loves chewing on CiCi’s necklaces. :o)
Well aren’t you just amazing! You’re definitely an inspiration 🙂 I just loved your post yesterday too…so, so, so true!
I hope you have a blessed week!
I could never ever (sorry for the negative!) memorize any of my pieces for my recitals…especially on the violin. I think it came from the lack of motivation to do so, but memorization has always been my weakness with music!
I need to watch Design Star. My sister keeps asking me (literally 14 times) if I am watching it. She has baby brain-my little nephew was just born over a week ago, so I will let it slide:-)
Hope you have a wonderful Monday! I can feel you pain with the teething. Tell Samuel he needs to stop waking up like that-he’s a big boy now! haha riiiiight huh?

P.S. I would TOTALLY make you a headband if I didn’t use the last of my ribbon on mine 🙁 Maybe if I get the chance to go to that antique store again I will grab some more! Ok, I’ve written a whole post for a comment!!
I wish I could speak Italian! And play the piano! You are too blessed. 🙂
I enjoyed the miscellany!
In Christ,
Lizzy Rose
Goodness! You’re a talented woman! I am dying to go to Italy. It’s my dream vacation. I’ll get there one day. I have always wished I could draw. My grandmother could. I inherited none of it. Hope you got some sleep last night. Have a great week!
i have always, always, always wanted to go to italy- one day it will happen, i hope!

I love Chloe’s middle name! So sweet (and meaningful!)
And I love watching Design Star (Which I missed last night!!!) That’s hilarious that you know what is good and bad. I’d like to think that I had a good eye but I usually like the things that the judges hate! Oops!
Love Laurella! My middle name is Laurene…a combo of Laura and Irene, my great-grandma’s names. Visiting from Mingle Monday…
Thanks for visiting my blog! I am going to try and do some of the blog things like miscellany monday, but school is about to start and for a teacher that means busy, busy, busy! I loved the post and your daughter’s name is beautiful! Have a wonderful week!
Bridget
LOVE your daughters middle name!
very pretty..
major was Architecture.. i think that’s VERY cool!!
WOW, you are so talented. I always wished that I could speak another language and play and instrument. Piano would be nice. I am just simply not that motivated and way too busy since I have gotten older.
Poor Samuel. I hope his teeth come in quickly and painlessly.
Chloe is so beautiful and I love her middle name.
Oh, I just entered your giveaway. I wished I had my own baby to give it to if I won, but alas, if I do, I will gift it to someone!
Blessings!
I love the story of your grandma at your recital – too precious! And I love the picture of Chloe – she’s just beautiful! I’m not sure I could name a daughter after either of my grandmas – Bessie and Bernice? Hm. Yup, can’t do much with that. Bernessie? But Laurella is just lovely.
I love these miscellanies! {If that’s not a word, it is now. ;] } I’m impressed that you were able to improvise while playing Moonlight Sonata – I don’t think very many other people would have been able to do the same thing!
Um the ode was presh….I think you are good at poetry :0)
Wish I could do interior design, speak italian wow that is quite impressive girlie
I am lovin’ your teethin’ bling super cute….
Your kiddos are presh….

Wow- Laurella is such a pretty name! My hubby was in architecture too (well, still is). I went to Italy in college and it was funny- I could speak Spanish to them and they would mostly understand me. Ha!
loved you list! Now I am thinking about my wonderful grandma that I miss so dearly. Stopping by from Mingle Monday!
But the more people who sign up…the less chance I have of winning!
Wow, you’ve gots skills! I’m impressed!
Always here praying!
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
