I took the weekend off from blogging. No new posts – a couple of comments and thank yous – but in general, I let my computer sit for most of the weekend. It wasn’t planned, but seemed to be needed. It was one quiet weekend, one of thinking, and being unplugged. I think we all need a break at times.
The snow is melting. All except for our front yard. It’s almost a bit embarrassing for me — you drive down our street and see grass, grass, mega snow, grass, grass, grass. I cannot figure out why our yard hangs on to the not so wanted snow. We’ve got two huge piles sitting in the front. Sigh….was it the snow fort?
Even more embarrassing? That I had to google search how to spell embarrass. After three times of seeing the squiggly red line under the word I decided enough was enough, and I swallowed my homeschooling momma pride and looked up the word.
I have the 30Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. I thought I’d try the easy level. As I was doing it I was thinking that it was no big deal. Easy. Now when it takes me four times as long to sit up because my abs are so sore I’m starting to be humbled and embarrassed (practice makes perfect with spelling) about my opinion of the 30Day Shred. It might take me longer to complete it….Is there a 30Day Shred + 6 weeks?
I wrote a devotional for five minutes for faith that is published today. I wrote about joy — and more specifically about finding joy. {Are you surprised?) I’d love for you to read it. It’s called — I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy….
I don’t think Brennan and Caleb (my seven and five year olds) got the idea behind the time change. Instead of getting up later they’ve been waking earlier than ever. Just this morning I heard Caleb wandering downstairs at a little bit past six this morning. Too early, too early, too early. However, it is cute to listen to them talk all stealth like and quiet as they pour their cereal. 🙂 It’s not as cute if they get crabby.

When most people hear that I have seven kids I typically hear them gasp. I always tell the that I am so blessed by my kids. Sometimes I forget that I have such a big family. It just seems normal for me. And I love the laughter. Oh, we laugh over here — how could we not?
The girls and I love to watch The Amazing Race on Sunday nights. (Remember, that was the one show I’d love be on.) Anyways, I forget to record the next program at eight at night because many times The Amazing Race gets bumped back due to sports. So sigh. Last night we arrived home, grabbed our late night snacks (which Jillian Michaels would not approve of) and settled in to watch. Once we realized that 60 Minutes creeped into the first 21 minutes of The Amazing Race we realized that we were doomed. Oh well, we’re thankful for online streaming. And that Chopped Champions recorded.
I have nine loads of laundry to fold today. I’m just saying. And will take volunteers.
I love lists (which is probably why I write so many on this blog). I’m thinking of writing a top ten list of favorite gluten free resources. Since it’s been two months since Samuel was diagnosed with Celiac Disease I’ve learned what products I love to use, what’s a good value for your money, and to be very very careful about dining out. He’s still recovering from our Olive Garden encounter with gluten from the gluten free menu. We’ll see. What would be on your top ten list?
{my Samuel, thanks to Hannah for the beauty of a picture}
Now this was a random miscellany monday post. I kind of needed to be random after being away from the computer — helped clear the brain. Enjoy your monday — hopefully yours is warm, that your snow melts (and if it doesn’t don’t be embarrassed — I can spell it now), and that you get exactly done what you need to do. And that your day is filled with joy. 🙂

Rachel, I can’t spell embarrass either ( I just had to go back and confirm I spelled it correctly~ha!) I love the ‘Amazing Race’, I won’t give it away but my favorite team got first this week. So proud of them! Our whole family sits down to watch this, love it!(Remember the family of four one?)My 3 sis’s and I almost got on. We were runners up. The blonde girls beat us out, it was a fun experience though just going thru the interview process.
Anyway, hope you get some spring now that it is here, and have a good ‘healthy’ week!
girl, stick with the shred. it will get easier if you keep at it. i love it bc its so quick for a good workout. don’t be discouraged.
hope your laundry folding goes by quickly. somehow.
i should watch the amazing race. i would like it too. i’ve been watching the next best restaurant on nbc with bobby flay. i think you girls would love it.
i’m looking forward to the days that my kids can get up and occupy themselves. : ) but 6am is too early!
have a great week full of snow melting.
Love this post, momma! 🙂
I’m spelling-challenged and have to look up many words…it’s OK. Rarely to I blog on the weekends and it’s always nice. I usually play catch up on Mondays. All of our snow has melted and revealed all of the yard cleaning we have to do…and the damage done to our driveway (sigh). I have some laundry to fold and so much more to wash. I hope you have a great week. I need to bond with Jillian this week myself.
Blessings and prayers,
andrea
I’m terrible at spelling. Why don’t we have laundry folding parties? I mean seriously. I also bought a giant laundry basket which was a terrible mistake. It holds about 3 loads and looks so deceiving. I’m sorry to hear about the gluten troubles with Samuel. I hope he keeps getting stronger!
Embarrass is one of those words that NEVER looks right. We’ve still got snow hanging around here as well, and it’s NOT my favorite. Will it ever be Spring? As for the 30 Day Shred…STICK WITH IT. After about 3 days the soreness starts to go away and it’s not nearly as tough to get through. I’ve been doing it and LOVE it. I did it last summer and lost 2 inches in my waist in 3 weeks. 🙂
I’m trying more and more often to avoid the computer on the weekend, and it is doing good things for my piece of mind.
LOVED your Miscellany post. I’ve done the same thing with the word embarrassed. You’re right. Practice does indeed make perfect. Since I write about being embarrassed a lot I now remember it–two r’s and two s’s! 🙂
I LOVE the 30 day Shred! It’s tough but a good workout each morning (now if only I could get the healthy eating balanced in with the exercise, I’d be good to go! :)) I think Level 2 is the hardest. I LOVE Level 3!
That picture of Samuel is SO precious! 🙂
Very, very cute post.
I’ve been lurking for awhile, and finally popped out to say, “hi!”
I have six siblings, and I feel the same about a big family. People look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them that there are seven of us. But to tell you the truth, I don’t even notice it anymore. To me, it doesn’t seem like 7 is alot most of the time!!
Don’t feel bad – I can never spell vacuum (or is it vaccum?) and I was an English teacher!
I just LOVE that picture of Samuel! Those eyes!
Rachel…don’t feel bad about the spelling. lol. I have learned that as I get older, my spelling gets worse! And I’m only 27…so that scares me! lol.
I’m so about list as well. I love them, and for some reason, everything looks better in a list. 🙂
I don’t think Jillian understands the concept of an easy level…
Always here praying!
Hebrews 13:20-21 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

I love your random posts and your posts with lists. You make me smile!
I really enjoyed your post over at 5M4F today.
I have never watched The Amazing Race, can you believe it? But I love Chopped and Chopped Champions.
If I lived closer, I’d come help you fold your laundry.
Have a blessed week!
What a great post! I have the SHRED, as well. Wishing both of us luck!
First, thank you for speaking at TEAM last month. Your words are sticking with me!
Secondly, I am curious what your little Samuel ate at the Olive Garden. We went there for lunch today and I had to ask a hundred questions before ordering for my egg-allergic three year old. They offered to boil her pasta in it’s own pot – not a pot shared with pasta with egg ingredients. So far so good – three hours later and no tantrum.
Now to figure out why my 12mo has been a crabpot the last few weeks!
Blessings to you and your family!
