living in the moment friday favorite things

by Rachel Marie Martin
After seeing the movie
I started to think of
how many times I don’t end up doing things with my kids
because I tell them
in a second, or later, or hold on.
Time slips away.
So this week I tried to say yes.
and look for the unexpected.

friday favorite things | finding joy

Like waking up early and going for a drive
watching the sun rise with Hannah.

Stopping next to the railroad tracks
sitting and talking about the beauty of the leaves around.

Laughing as I pull into the coffee shop.
{me? get coffee?}
And grinning as the Caribou cup sits on my dashboard.

Or letting Chloe and Gracie
splatter paint on the deck
getting drops of beautiful paint everywhere

and thinking to take some pictures to capture the moment.

Joy

Caleb’s Crazy Hair
{love this shot by Hannah}

Or of Brennan and Elijah playing Lincoln Logs
downstairs — building together

Bonds.
Buildings.
Brothers.

Me not caring about the mess
but rather about that sweet face.

Pulling over on the side of the road
telling Hanni to jump out so that
we could take a couple pictures because it was beautiful.

And then letting her take one of me
living in the moment.

{by the way the winner of the ticket to the Replenish Your Soul Conference
is Cristi from Through the Calm and the Storm Congrats! }

It’s of Samuel throwing leaves in the air

and me letting my kids go outside at 10:30 in the morning
{before the math was done}
and relishing in the simple joys of fall.

Saying “yes”
and living in the moment with your kids
is certainly a favorite thing.

I know it was for me this week.

This is such a beautiful post. Thank you for the reminder. I think most of us Moms need it from time to time. 😉

Life has been so crazy for us recently — Much of it is because I’ve had to deal with stuff and people outside the home (as you can tell by my post 🙂

In the midst of all this crazyness the Lord keeps bringing me back to focus on these dear people He has given me charge of and on what is truly of eternal value – As always your post says this so beautifully, Rachel.

my favorite shots: the leaves falling on gracie, samuel throwing leaves, paint splatters, sun rise… okay, i guess i’ll say they’re all my favorites. although i do particularly love the shot of you because i know you don’t like to be the camera subject. but you’re so pretty and photogenic. it’s a beautiful picture.

when i read on fb that you and hannah pulled over to a field just to take pictures i SO wanted to be there.

with all these yes’s this week, i guess this makes you a courageous mom. cool. you are the best.

love ya!

Wow these pics are amazing and capture the beauty of fall…not to mention your beautiful kids!

I too realized I am saying “later” way to much to my kids. The YES almost always proves to be more fun 😉

Blessings to you Rachel!

YES! While I believe there are times when I have to say no there are so many more times to say YES. I need to allow experiences to be opened to them and give them my full attention. You are such a wonderful mom to work on your YES and give yourself fully to your amazing children. I love the splattered paint on the face and Samuel is too cute in those leaves 🙂 Happy Friday sweet Rachel.

Yay for saying Yes!! I’ve really learned and been blessed by my girls when I stop and say yes 🙂 Love the pics – you have some wonderful colors already! We are still pretty green here.

These are all so beautiful and you’ve captured each moment perfectly, or at least I felt like I was ‘your’ moment:)
I have a linky party on Fridays too..but it’s for your ‘me’ moments of the week.

Sometimes it’s just freeing to release yourself and let things just ‘happen’. I love this link up!
