….how truly thankful I would be for that bag of $1.99 freezie popsicles that I mentioned yesterday in my {friday} favorites post.
Or how much I’d miss that highchair that I wrote about on Wednesday in my big boy post.
Why? Yesterday morning, as my family was eating breakfast {which of course would be their favorite pbjs and Samuel’s gluten free bread pbj} Samuel decided to lean in off of the chair that he was standing on {which he knows he’s not to do} and when he took a step forward there wasn’t a chair. It was air.
And he fell.
As soon as I picked him up I knew he got hurt — I could see the blood everywhere on the white pajama shirt with his favorite dump truck — but I didn’t know how bad. As Caleb ran upstairs crying, and sobbing that he didn’t want Samuel to go back to the hospital {the whole Celiac experience really scared him about hospitals and brothers that get sick} Todd came running down with a wet washcloth. I tried ice. He just wouldn’t keep anything in that mouth to stop the bleeding.
Then Todd remembered our popsicle trick. He pulled out a freezie, snipped the top, and handed over the tube of gluten-free, but super sugary, cold goodness to Samuel. As he sucked on that drippy mess the bleeding slowly {and I mean slowly} began to subside.
I saw that his top teeth met the bottom lip and proceeded to gouge out a big chunk.
Sigh. After a quick call to my mother and a plea on twitter {thank you twitter friends} asking if bottom lips get stitched and another popsicle {this time orange} Samuel was ready to get off of my lap and go on with his day.
And now I remember why we keep one {or two} hidden in the back of the freezer.
So now that you’ve heard my newest Samuel tale {how much drama can one little one have in his 21 months?} go to your local store and invest in those plastic wrapped freezies. Eat a few. And save the rest — make sure to hide them — in the back of the freezer. You just never know when you’ll need one and how grateful you’ll be that it’s tucked away back there.
Oh, Samuel, oh my. I love you like crazy.
any been there done that tips like my popsicle one? please do share.
and the lip? this morning? considerably better.

Aw, he’s so sweet!
I had forgotten about those ice pops doing wonders for split lips and things. Thanks for the reminder. I should invest in some ice pops!
It helps if you save a red one. They camouflage the bleeding and help stressed kiddies settle down.
Disposable diapers wetted down and then stuck in the freezer work great for bruised knees and elbows…first bike rides without training wheels. 😉
Great idea! I’ve never thought of that one. I like Clairbear’s idea as well.
Poor little guy 🙁 So glad he wasn’t hurt worse!!!
What a great suggestion. We had a similar incident with a chair about a month ago… falls are so scary!
Poor baby boy! This kid is ready for a break from injury and illness. Fortunately, lips heal pretty quickly, my kids did that stuff a lot.
Aww, poor guy! Thank God lips heal up fast. We keep a few popsicles stashed too for emergencies such as that. RED washcloths are a great thing for kids a bit older too – they can’t see the blood that way and panic more.
those babies of ours, it’s a never ending saga isn’t it? He is precious!
Rachel,
So glad he’s okay! By the way, your Hannah has a ballet picture in the ER Star News today…I didn’t know if you knew about it or not!?!
So glad to hear Samuel is okay!
I love the picture of Samuel’s toes gripping the chair.
No tips, but I have a feeling I may be needing popsicles with my Joshua; his brothers were jumping off the top landing of some stairs yesterday (only 4 steps, with concrete below) and he thought he’d try it too. I barely made it in time to catch him! He has NO fear!
Things just happen so quickly…one of my grandson’s fell a couple of days ago and he got a pretty big egg on his head. Had two kids hit their heads and need stitches and oh my yes do heads bleed! Glad he’s doing better! Praying that the Lord keeps those angels of Samuel close! (Am thinkin’ he’s got at least 2 at this point).
Praying!

Oh, bless his little heart. So thankful for those ice pops!
Glad Samuel is on the mend :). I have freezes in the freezer right now, I’ll be sure to pull a few to hide in the back!
Poor little guy… He’s such a sweet, cute little boy. Praying for him still!
God bless!

Woow… so cute pictures. this is one of the magnificent post. so happy to read that he is well.
So glad Samuel is ok!! So adorable how he keeps up with his older brothers and sisters!! Your photos are gorgeous!! What a family of abundance.
We haven’t had any split lips lately (though I’ll need to remember that red freezie tip from clairbear!) but when my 2 1/2 yr old little bruiser set his hand on a hot burner last week, I quickly grabbed a can of frozen juice for him to hold for as long as he could stand it- I remembered by mother doing that for my little sister many years ago!
