I am your place.
I am your place to land in this world.
My door is always open, my heart there for you, I am safe.
I know that there have been many times where I have messed up or yelled even though I tried so hard not to or felt overwhelmed with this whole mothering thing, but despite all the stumbles, I have never ever given up on you and I will always be here for you. I know that sometimes you have done stuff where you don’t know what to do next or your friends pressure you and you mess up. I am still here.
The world will throw so many things at you. The world will test you, will try you, will make you wonder if you are enough, but my sweet children, you are enough. I will remind you. I might not have all the answers nor be able to change the situations but my heart will listen, my hands will hold yours and I will see you – for you.
Listen, I know that we have had our shares of struggles too. Of slammed doors, silence, and I hate you’s. That is okay. It is okay. I love you, I forgive you, I know that it was the emotion of the moment.
But me?
I am your mother.
I will always be your mother.
Now understand, while I am your place to land, I won’t tolerate disrespect, won’t tolerate you making repeatedly poor choices, I will hold you to a standard that sometimes you doubt. That is love. That is a safe place to land because it is not a place of passivity but a place of love and goals and together. But even with the tough love, I will not turn my back on you when you call. I will listen, will love, will be there.
Life needs a safe place.
It needs a net.
Because many people will let you down. I wish I could protect you from that, but I cannot. And even if I could you still need those times where your knees hit the pavement so you learn to bike safer or your hands touch the burner so you learn to not touch the stove. I can tell you over and over but I have to let you learn. That part is really hard. It’s hard knowing that you might fall, but knowing that when you fall you will be stronger and I will help you up.
That is a place to land too.
You might not know where to go or who to trust or what is up or what is down. You can trust me. I will have your back. I will tell you truth – even if you don’t like it – but I will be honest with you. That is love.
I am your safe place to land. We can get through life together.
I didn’t sign up to be a mom to have a perfect life. I didn’t sign up for everything to go in a straight line without hard times. I signed up for the whole thing. Ups, downs, good times, bad times, scary times, wonderful times, lonely times, I have no idea what I’m doing times, all of the times. The place to land times.
I will try. I will give. I will love.
I will mother.
I am your place.
