contentment. revisited.

On January 1, 2011
I wrote a post
describing my word for the year.
Contentment.
I wrote

How can I expect it {life} to not have
the ups and downs?

Ups and downs
don’t define
joy.

Or contentment.

“…for I have learned to be
content
in whatever
the circumstances.”
Philippians 4:11b
Who would have known.
Really known what this year would bring.
Or that 17 days later I would be
at Children’s Hospital with Samuel.

And yet, even with all the dips on the rollercoaster
I find myself content.
Content and joyful.
Content to
change diapers
cook dinner
clean my home
drive to ballet
sit at soccer
read those books
and teach algebra
go to the doctor
rock Samuel to sleep
wash the laundry
and make the bed
rake the leaves
dust the pictures
take the garbage out
play with legos
tie some shoes
and get up early
buy some groceries
sweep the garage
pay the bills
pick up toys
and mop the floor
find missing shoes
sew buttons on
scrub the sink
fold the towels
and just keep going.
These are all blessings
that so easily could be defined
as chores.

My prayer lately has been that
the Lord opens my eyes to the
goodness
in the everyday minutes of life.
In the laughter
and joy
and seriousness
and ups and downs
and family
and just living life.
Contentment.
It’s there.

That’s beautiful! I’m doing better today than I was January 1, but you never know what challenges will come to test whether you really will be content in every circumstance.

“These are all blessings

Blessings indeed- and ministry opportunities!

Lovely reminder…

Enjoy them,
enjoy today,
enjoy Him,

You get up each morning and you don’t know what the day will bring. But you do know that the Lord will be with you every step of the way!
Still praying in Seattle!
Psalms 5:11-12 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

I was with you up until “dusting pictures” 🙂 I prefer to think that dust gives our house a comfortable, non-intimidating feel.

Seriously though, I do think contentment can be summed up well by your statement “blessings that so easily could be defined as chores.”

So much in life is a matter of perspective, isn’t it?
