a very short and very simple favorite things

by Rachel Marie Martin
my week has been
kind of gray like the Minnesota skies
but despite that I’m stopping
to be thankful for the
very sweet and simple little joys
in my imperfect and busy life.

and these are just a few of my favorite things

friday favorite things | finding joy

the fun of gathering ice
outside on a Minnesota day
and then using it as your ultimate shield

little boys who draw
wearing a Minnesota Twins hat which is almost always worn
plenty of sharp pencils and
lots of paper to draw on

gluten free Lucy’s cookies
friends that call during the day
m&m shakes made at home
and games scattered about

 that little boy again
drawing away minute after minute
engrossed in his creation
or as he calls it
 his masterpiece

sweet Samuel
 sitting on the rocking chair
reading his Richard Scarry book as if it
were the Sunday paper

the mini-skating rink
in our backyard
created by melting snow and warm temps
and then those freezing temps

grapefruits
in the middle of winter
they almost make me feel like it’s summer

and my amaryliss
which I love
it’s life in the middle of winter
it’s blooms brightening my day
and reminding me of simple, simple joy.

Now I want to play a game and eat some grapefruit 🙂 Beautiful simple list of things that bring you joy. I adore Samuel’s smiley face as he’s ready his book.

Every time I walk past the gluten section in the grocery store I think of you 🙂 So glad you’re able to find more that works.

We LOVE the old Richard Scarry books – the one your little guy is holding is one of our favorites.

Have a great weekend!!

Indeed, citrus fruit adds so much summer into these cold months. Oh, and I hope you are enjoying the snow for the both of us 🙂

Beautiful reminders of the joys of winter as we look forward to the new life of spring! Praise God for seasons that help us to understand the cycles of our spiritual as well as our physical life.

Loving grapefruits right now too! Such a needed practice, finding joy when when it’s grey. Thanks for sharing!

Some of your favorite things are mine, too! Like m&m shakes! Love shakes! And that picture of your grapefruit is so pretty! Samuel sure look adorable reading his book. Love catching those moments, too. I’m sorry your week has been gray, though. Praying next week brings a little bit brighter skies (both literally and figuratively). 🙂
