sweet motherhood favorites

by Rachel Marie Martin
I am blessed to be called momma.

friday favorite things | finding joy

This letter is for you
my sweet seven children
these are my favorite things that I get to experience
because of each of you.
***
I am grateful
to be the one who hears your dreams
to watch you run and play and scooter outside

to put away your soccer balls

and blow bubbles in early spring

to be reminded to marvel at the simple things

to fold your clothes

even if those clothes take me hours and hours and hours

to be the one on whom you rest your head

to hear your stories

to wake at night when you are scared and hold your hand

to comfort you when you are sad

***
I am blessed
by simply looking at you in wonder

by your laughter

by your silliness

and your sweetness
{with a messy face}

by your drawings, just for me

by the opportunity to teach you

academics, arts, cooking, and life

***
I love watching
you play with each other

your youthful freedom

how you look forward to our annual trip to the lake

and spending time down on our dock

how you dance beautifully
the clouds with you and imagining the shapes

you sleep peacefully at night

your sweet and graceful smile

***
I have learned
about cameras and lenses and photography

but I’ve really really really learned

to not worry about the little things

like flowers plucked from my garden

or spilled milk on the floor
or messy hands wiped on pants

or even muddy boots thrown on the floor
***
Because you have taught me
to look beyond the immediate mess and to see your heart

that messes can be beautiful

those flowers were for me
the milk you tried to pour because you were “so big”

those messy pants from the messy hands can be washed
and the boots were muddy when you explored.
***
I will
be the one who holds you when you are sick
fight for you in the hospital

stay up late and pray with you
drive you to and fro and to and fro

bake cookies at Christmas
{which this year will be gluten free}

to listen to you and love you and cherish you

 ***
most importantly
I strive to teach you about God
and all the joy that can be found in this life
when you live your life for Him.

***
Hannah, Chloe, Grace,
Brennan, Caleb, Elijah, and Samuel –
I love each of you.
You are what made me a mom.
And that is one of my most favorite things.
Ever.

***
what are your favorite mom moments?

And thanks so much for your encouraging comment on my page–it’s nice to know I’m not crazy for being so eager to work with those students.

Love the post as always!
Continuing to lift up prayer!
Psalms 18:31-33 For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.

I very recently stumbled across your blog, but I’ve felt very blessed in the posts I’ve read and the beautiful photography of your family.

I was given a One Lovely Blog award, and I decided to pass it on to you:

Lifting up prayers!
Romans 5:1-2 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
