(i’m going to try)

by Rachel Marie Martin

How often do we overlook solace or laughter so that we can keep the never-ending checklist going?

(I know i do)

I’m not very good at taking a Sabbath day.  In fact, truth be told, I fail at it.  Miserably. I’m always so concerned that I’ll be behind if I rest.  What about the laundry? Or the planning? Or the cleaning? I’ll try to rest but my vision is clouded by a life full of things that need to be done.

I need to rest.

So today, I’m going to try again.  I am going to attempt to take time this afternoon not working. Those items on the to do list will be there tonight. And tomorrow.  My kids will grow. And my time is limited.

Maybe I’ll play a game.
Or read some blogs.
Or read some books.
Or work on that snow fort.
Or take a nap.
(yes, a nap)

I don’t know.

I do know I’m going to try.

Care to join me?

I’m so taking a nap today! I have a hard time resting on Sundays, too. It seems like there’s always MORE to do on this day of the week than any other, weirdly. *yawn*

Thank you for this! Lately, I’ve been so driven that it’s caused me anxiety, which has affected my health. My goal for myself is to take 15 minutes every day just to sit quietly. No TV or external stimulation – just me and my Bible or a book. Oh, and to let go of the to-do list and play Candy Land with the boys. 😉

NAP! I agree with the sabbath. Just remember to make the sabbath what you need it to be. Rest, games, family time, but not what anybody else tells you to! Enjoy your day of rest!

Thank you for this reminder! I thought once {or twice, or three times…} that I should do my homework Saturday and leave Sunday as a day of rest. I had forgotten about that idea, but reading this post reminded me. I’m going to try – we’ll see how it works!

In our church we make it a focus to rest. As soon as the sun goes down on Friday (I worship on a saturday), we welcome the sabbath and we leave all our weekly worries behind and think of Him…tis hard sometimes…my father in law taught me to write a list, as he says it”download” all your things to do and wants to do for the next week and then you can rest and enjoy the sabbath….happy sabbath my dear…xxx

I have almost the opposite problem…to many naps…not enough care giving/home care. I hope you got your rest today…we all need it. God did it as an example!

I’m doing this today! Lying on the couch reading blogs right now. 🙂 I’ll clean the kitchen later tonight so we’re not starting out “behind” tomorrow morning, but that’s about it for today. 🙂

Lifting up prayers!
II Corinthians 1:3-5 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

Wow – good luck!! I struggle with it too, I would imagine most moms do – there’s just not enough time.

Thanks for sharing.

Good for you! I do try to rest on the Sabbath, and it is my salvation that keeps me going the rest of the week. The past two weeks, however, I have been taking care of a family and working hard. I am so looking forward to this coming Sabbath; I need it! Corine
