some letters on friday
{and an explanation}
So I had this minor problem when I went to sit and write my friday favorite things this week. Um, that would be pictures. I had absolutely no new pictures. Might have something to do with my daughter Hannah shooting a wedding and us being exhausted and it being a week off and even though it’s off I’ve been busy trying to catch up on things. Like laundry.

My solution? The second placers. You know? Like Crocs. The shoes that kind of work for everyday but don’t quite make the I’m going out cut? Well, these are the pics from some previous weeks that didn’t make the initial friday favorite things cut not due to lack in love, but rather the logistics of space. Now, today, today is their chance to shine in picture glory.
Here are my giving the seconds a chance favorite things.
dear my dad’s amazing garden that is about 15 times larger than mine,
how is that when I was a kid I hated working in you
{I know, I used that word, but I really didn’t like it}
and now I love to wander around and work with my dad in the soil?
And, gasp, I have my own garden which I start planning in February.
Which never ever ever looks as good as you.
dear brennan playing in that garden,
this is truly a boy’s paradise
dirt and sticks and rocks
and adventure.
I love that you can explore
and just be free to be a kid.
dear winter,
and no, this is a repeat, not a seconds,
but it’s obligatory that I show a winter pic in June to remind us of how fab summer is.
I don’t miss you.
but it’s obligatory that I show a winter pic in June to remind us of how fab summer is.
I don’t miss you.
Nope, not at all.
Not even with that cool snowman that Caleb and I built.
My time of missing you will come.
But, not now. Now? The weather is glorious.
dear me in my parent’s backyard,
{you look much warmer than you do in the winter picture}
how in the world did you not appreciate this beauty and peace
when you were a child?
Now? I know why you love to spend time at your parents.
Glorious.
dear elijah looking out the window,
I just love you like crazy.
Even when I have to run after you
after you decide to sneak out the house and run in the backyard.
You are a handful, but even with that, I wouldn’t trade you for the world.
Or this moment of you being still.
dear quote,
I love these words.
I’m sharing you again.
I’m sharing you again.
That’s it.

dear little boy named caleb sitting on the deck,
First, I love how you have all the chairs still stacked.
And I love your copper-colored hair.
And I love how you want to read stories with me every night.
But, most of all, I just love you….
dear chloe,
{and this is not a second this is a first choice pick that I had to share}
I’m adding this pic because I absolutely love it.
You are such a graceful ballerina
and a beautiful daughter
and I am proud to be your mom.
dear caribou iced tea drinks that have the sparkle to them,
I think I need to be a brand ambassador for you.
{along with my daughters hannah and chloe}
{along with my daughters hannah and chloe}
I love your coffee.
I visit you often.
In fact, much of my blog is written while sitting in your plush leather chairs.
And now, now this? This fabulous iced drink?
dear dirt,
thank you for providing such joy and delight for my Samuel.
And a constant source of laundry for me.
You keep me busy.
All the time.
And a constant source of laundry for me.
You keep me busy.
All the time.
dear readers,
if you’d be so kind
would you all mind voting quick for me?
I’ve been nominated as a Top Mom of Teens over on Circle of Moms.
I’d be grateful. And humbled.
dear sweet baby feet of emma in my arms,
{how could I not share another pic of you?}
I am so grateful that you live next to me
I am so grateful that you live next to me
so that I can hold you and enjoy your sweetness.
And more than that, I’m grateful for your mom,
and how she’s one of my dearest friends.
dear brennan,
when did you become so big?
it just seems like you were the little one who would fit in my arms like little Emma.
Sigh.
Motherhood is a gift.
Time should just slow down a teeny bit for me.
dear strawberries,
you are summer to me.
and now you are even more of a favorite when I can purchase you for
$1.66 a pound.
No wonder our family ate 7 pounds of strawberries in one day.
Well, we did have shortcake.
And there’s nine of us. 🙂
And there’s nine of us. 🙂
dear sky,
you get to be on the faves for two weeks in a row.
there is something about summer skies
so blue and clear and glorious
that makes this the perfect ending for
friday favorite things this week.
And that?
That’s the seconds favorite things.
Me? I loved them.
And I hope you did too.

Such goodness. Such blessings! Wonderful.
I have been hearing about the new Caribou ice tea with bubbles drinks all week from different people. Today is the day. I am finding a Caribou and trying one! I hear the white tea with lime is a good one… suggestions? 🙂
Chloe’s picture is gorgeous – and so is yours!
Btw, I came to your blog yesterday morning and was surprised you hadn’t posted your Friday Favorites yet. I checked it a few more times and thought you must be skipping it this week. THEN I realized, um, it’s Thursday, Gwen. 🙂 You’re obviously more on the ball than I am! 😉
I love how you set up your Friday posts. If not already, one day your kids are really going to cherish this!

Beautiful as always!!!
We all deserve a second chance, don’t we? Nice pics.
Great post! It’s always important to go back and be thankful for the week you experienced. I’m going to have to write my own when I can sit down without being interrupted every two seconds…so maybe. Love the pictures and all of it! I voted for you too.
Beautiful moments you have shared! Thanks for the great post and for hosting the linkup.
God bless,
Laurie

I agree with Mary Beth that these posts will be so sweet for your kid to look back on. And for you, too. Recording the good things is so, so important. Love it, friend!
I LOVE the picture of you at your parent’s house…you are so beautiful! Now I know where your daughters get it : )
Another lovely post by a lovely gal! I love that picture of you too! Easy to see why these were some of your favorites today.
Blessings for a wonderful weekend!
Oh this was good! I really liked what you said about the dirt and how it keeps you so busy all day long. I just thought that that was really funny=) And oh yeah, i love the picture of yourself and the ice tea- that was super cool=)

Know that I’m always here praying!
Romans 8:35, 37-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?…Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Great thoughts you got there, believe I may possibly try just some of it throughout my daily life.
