On Saturday we spent the day at my parents.
Or, as Caleb calls them, my folks. {Not sure where he picked that up, but he’ll ask me, “are we going to your folks today, ma?”} The ma he got from Little House. Anyways, while we were there we spent our day playing games {Apples to Apples}, and wandering around my parents yard, watching my dad teach Gracie and Elijah how to prune his grape vines, taking faux yearbook photos {seriously} and playing with various toys. Including the below pictured old vintage Fisher Price train that used to belong to me.
Ouch. Vintage. And me. Uttered in the same line. Not good, not good, not good. How did that happen? When did the toys of my youth become vintage? They sell these Little People sets on ebay? I’m assuming there are people looking to find these wonderful toys of my youth.
They do NOT make toys {that last} like this anymore. None of the plastic is broken, the little “tooting” horn still works. The train moves correctly. Perfect. Compare that with so many of the toys that my kids have that break within days of them getting them. This one? Vintage.
Samuel. Playing with my train. Priceless.
the faux yearbook photos. My brother, Joel, decided to pull all of our letter jackets out of my mom’s closet. Of course, this lead to all of us wandering around posing for faux yearbook photos. I think at what point someone actually thought we were taking real yearbook photos — they slowed down and stared. Ha! Remember? I’m vintage. 🙂
I can still pose for photos. Like this. With my baby sister, Abby. ha ha ha.
Pruning. My dad has this huge grape vineyard {yes, in Minnesota}. Elijah and Grace wandered down there to watch him work on Saturday — then when I wandered down to check on him I came to find him with pruning shears in his hands and my dad watching as he clipped away the old shriveled grapes and dead branches. The look of pride on his face? Priceless. This is not vintage. However — there is something absolutely beautiful to me watching my dad work side by side with my children. This? It was timeless.
Love the generations. Family is the ultimate in important to me. I can tell you friends that I am so grateful that my parents instilled in my a love of family. I tell my kids family comes first. Always. I pray that they have the same amazing relationship that I do with my siblings. Especially so one day that they too will laugh on a Saturday and will play games, prune some vines, and of course, take some faux vintage pics. 🙂
Just a light hearted post for Monday. We need those sometimes, right? Tell me about your weekend…did you keep busy? I also did some spring cleaning and I’m working on putting together my cleaning rotation/chart for you all. Do you have a routine? And tell me ….tell me the secret to getting windows perfectly clean? without fuzz or streaks?
Now, I’m off to pour myself a cup of coffee in this very non-vintage cup. Coffee? Never gets old.

i loved this post because i feel the same way about becoming vintage. those are toys i played with as a little girl, and i’m one of those who look for them on ebay! i bought a little people vintage town for my littles on ebay {because all of my would-be vintage toys are long gone 🙁 }, and the quality is amazing compared to today’s toys…and my 2 year old loves it more than any new toy he has! i love the pics of you in the letterman! so cute!
They don’t make toys like they used to! Love the train and how sweet that you got some shots of Samuel loving the train. What a lovely weekend!
I used to have that same train! It was one of my favorites. And wow. The letterjackets! Great pics! We spent the weekend getting sand out of your front yard that is all rocks…no grass. Yes, in NM that is what we do in the spring. Spring brings wind and the wind brings so much sand it covers our rocks almost completely. I’ve heard wiping windows with newspaper instead of any sort of towel keeps streaks at bay. Have a blessed week. Thank you for sharing your wonderful weekend with your family. That is just something I do not have, but am starting fresh with my kids!
ok, you are too cute. I am a new follower of your blog – found you at Carissas and am loving that I am introduced to you with your siblings in your letterman jacket! Classic. What did you letter in?!
Happy Monday – off to read more posts on your blog.
xoxo
The letter jacket photo with your sister = fantastic. 🙂
Sounds like a lovely weekend.
Uh, wow! You sure can pose! You don’t look more than twenty there!
Any my mom has those trains from when we were little…and I have some of the fisher price stuff I’ve picked up from garage sales I used to play with..vintage? Yiy.
PS Love the Ma reference 😀 my boys have started calling daddy “Pa” because of little house 😀
you are bringing high school back. that’s what.
and, i am so in love with vintage. i wish, though, that i could get the vintage toys at vintage prices. : )
that train? a total heirloom. love it!
and i love you!
You are not old enough for vintage, my friend! But I am laughing at those yearbook photos…
Major church work, got a couple of walks in, went to a class…family Sunday meal at church…I don’t know why I want the weekends to come. I end up working more on the weekends than I do during the week!
This hymn has so much meaning…and gives so much hope. Praying hard!
3. There at my Savior’s side
Heav’n is my home;
I shall be glorified,
Heav’n is my home;
There are the good and blest,
Those I love most and best;
And there I, too, shall rest,
Heav’n is my home.
4. Therefore I murmur not,
Heav’n is my home;
Whate’er my earthly lot,
Heav’n is my home;
And I shall surely stand
There at my Lord’s right hand.
Heav’n is my fatherland,
Heav’n is my home.
