1} Will spring really come? Winter’s grip is desperately trying to remain, and spring hasn’t enough energy to finally win. That’s why we had snow on Friday. Just a dusting. But, seriously, it was snow. I just stared at it, watching it melt in the April morning sun, thinking about how I probably won’t see it again till fall — at which time I’ll be thrilled to discover at the sight of the white blanket on my grass. Maybe if the wind would just settle down….just a bit.
{look at Samuel’s hair in the wind — at least the snow was gone}
2} Caleb opened the window, saw the unwanted white layer and proceeded to fall on the floor and yell an irritated — nooooooo. He expressed my sentiments exactly — and with a bit more boldness. Maybe next time I’ll just flop to the floor in dismay. 😉
3} All weekend it was cold. I just need to let you know that again. Especially if you live in an area where it is green and the sun shines and you have glorious flowers. We don’t. We do have several glorious shades of brown and the starts of green in the grass. I think the only real color in my yard comes from the brightly colored little tyke toys that dot my backyard. Tell me, are any of you experiencing the agony of no real spring yet? Or are you basking in beautiful colors — like the ones I see on my Lowe’s flyer?
4} Even though it was cold I still put away the winter clothing. Coats, boots, gloves, hats, scarves, and more. For a family of nine. In fact, my entire weekend was one of sorting, and cleaning, and folding, and sorting, and more sorting, and donating, and throwing. Spring cleaning. Which is why there was no post over the weekend — I was lost in the stuff. Oh yeah, and those winter coats? We could have used them this Sunday.

5} Our church holds an egg-hunt for the kids. It’s awesome fun and gets families together. It was outside. {do you remember update three? update the snow?} The sun shone, the wind whipped, and the kids raced. The parents? We froze. But we froze in delight as those little ones of ours ran around gathering their eggs. Including my Samuel. He gathered egg after egg after egg.
6} The youth group discovered that sixlets {you know, the candy} are gluten free. They came, one after another, bringing the sixlets that they’d discover in eggs to me — for Samuel. There was something inspiring and heartwarming about seeing our youth — these young adults — go out of their way to gather {and give-up} candy for little Samuel.
{which eggs holds the sixlets???}
7} The highlight of yesterday? Watching the younger kids of our church march down front waving palm branches while we sang Hosanna. Even in the midst of silly complaining about weather and the trials of celiac disease there is greater joy and hope in Jesus. Seeing little ones unashamed in their love for our Savior, with hands waving in joy, always centers my heart to the real important. May this Holy Week be a week of reflection, remembrance, and ultimately joy as you celebrate our Savior’s resurrection.

It was cold and windy at soccer on Saturday and sure did not feel like spring. Today the sun is shining and the birds are chirping so I am hoping for warmer weather this week 🙂
I had a dream last night that I met you in person. Isn’t that funny?!
I would flop on the floor about the snow too…so wrong. I love the part about the youth getting the candy for Samuel…LOVE it!!! #7 is a wonderful highlight…we are truly blessed to be given such a gift. Have a wonderful Holy Week!
I wanted to do what Caleb did this weekend. So cold. I hope the snow in the forecast is just a mistake. Easter’s coming whether we’re ready or not!
I feel like flopping in the floor right now, as it’s supposed to rain here today, after being in the high 70s yesterday. How precious for the youth to bring Samuel their candy. I loved Sixlets growing up. Have a beautiful day!
I was feeling your pain in the first few points, as we still are battling cold and wind at time. I then the sun came out, my soul was warmed by the picture of the youth selflessly bringing their candy to Samuel. And the vision of the kids waving Palm Branches to Hosanna, brought a warm tear to my eye. Thanking you for the sunshine amongst the cold!
Hi Rachel,
We have snow too! 🙂 Yesterday it rained and then hailed which turned into snow and this morning there is snow everywhere! I love it though, it is so pretty.
What wonderful kids to search for candy for Samuel!! Teens can be such a blessing.
Praying,
<><
Snow? In April?! I’m not sure I’d want to see it either. I would have fell out in the floor with him! 🙂
I love Easter egg hunts! They are really a lot of fun.
Oh and for the record, I live in a sunny warm state and although we do have flowers, our grass is all brown and yucky. :/
I hope sunshine and warm temps are on their way this week! Don’t worry, even though we have decent weather now, by the time August comes it will be too miserably hot to go outside. I’ll be wishing I was in MN!
Sweet Pictures and what a kind youth group! I bet Samuel enjoyed the sixlets.
Hosanna – we sang it too. What a glorious hope we have!!!
Yea for your helpful youth, we love sixlets at my house, and I will think of Samuel from now on when I enjoy them.
We are enjoying Spring here in North Louisiana–flip flops and capris today. I will need a little more color before I venture out in shorts 🙂
Sadly, I do know what you’re talking about with the cold weather. I thought that with Easter late in the month of April we could wear Easter clothes without coats…not looking too promising. Oh well. I figure spring has to come eventually…right? (And truthfully, I only have two more months of this pregnancy, and most of my maternity clothes are long-sleeved, so…I guess this is good.) 🙂
my friend lives in wisconsin and she said she and the kids had an easter egg hunt in the snow 🙂
I was at the spaghetti factory the other day and they had a gluten free dish that one of my friends ordered and it came out with a flag declaring it GLUTEN FREE, i thought it was cute and took a picture for you but never sent it…I will have to soon…
I absolutely love reading sentences like #7. It’s such an incredible thing to experience. The simplicity in a child. Hope you had a great Monday!
Praying right now!
