My verse for today?
An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Proverbs 12:5
The anxious heart? Mine.
The kind words? From you guys.
Why? Read below
1) Today’s temperature is supposed to be about 94. Not bad, right? With high humidity. With heat warnings — where it will feel like it is in the mid 100s.
2) Just a reminder — yes, I do live in Minnesota. And no, we are not always cold. See above.
3) Last night, about eleven pm, I thought to myself, “Is it warm in here?” I went down, checked the thermostat and it read (brightly — due to the new batteries we put in earlier in the day) 84 degrees. Hmmmmm…I flicked the switch, felt the vents (blowing hot air), and went outside. Dead. My outside unit was dead.
4) Changing batteries in the thermostat does not fix the problem.
5) Attempting to find a working flashlight in a house of four boys at 11:30 at night (it was that time by then) is never easy.
6) Our interior of our home is creeping up to 90 right now. And it is only 7:58 in the morning. The interior of my mood is creeping to 90. And at 100 is the limit. I am going to have to think of some super plan — involving iced coffee — to make it through the day.
7) I am hot.
8) When I say, “I am hot” I mean that my body is not cool temperature wise. Just thought I’d clarify that point.
9) Even though I tried to be humorous in this list, there are many pressing needs on my family right now and it is testing my perseverance. Really. It’s easy to get overwhelmed right now — especially when I’m warm — but there seems to be more that needs to go out then I have in. I’d love prayers for God’s providence.
10) And last, but not least, I am laughing at the irony of the label on my air conditioner. See picture. There is no achieving going on now. I’m thinking that this is more of an epic fail.
Thanks for reading my whiney Miscellany Monday. I tried to make my whiney at least a little bit enjoyable. And doesn’t whining/finding joy together seem like an oxymoron? I hope I redeemed the whine. At least it wasn’t this:
Bloooooooooooooooooooooooogers……I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed your loooooooooooove. (in a grating whiney type)
Remember to link on up! Carissa’s Miscellany Monday post today is awesome. Had me grinning.

Oh, I know how you feel, honey! Our air has been out since last saturday…that’s saturday a week ago! And I live in SC. Two days last week, we had heat warnings. And our air conditioner is both strange and old at the same time so it’s taking LONG to get the part we need. One big difference between you and I: I don’t have kids! I feel for you and I’m praying your’s gets fixed much faster then ours.
get to a happy place~stat!!
some fun air conditioned place that the kids love to go….
a shady pool…..
hope your unit is fixed soon.

Oh…a little tip! Don’t use your oven/stove. It brings the temp up A LOT! I learned the hard way. I thought boiling noodles wouldn’t be that much, turns out I was wrong.
Bless your heart. We are in Memphis and it’s been in triple digits for a while now. Our AC is working but can’t keep up so it gets rather warm in the hottest part of the day. Praying your AC gets fixed soon. Stay cool somehow!
OH! You poor thing! I live in Wisconsin not too far from Minnesota so we are having the same temps. I completely understand.
Maybe get a spritz bottle? Some fans? I am sure you are in tank and shorts. Maybe the kids can go outside in the pool? but it is pretty humid right now out there too.
I am sorry you are having to deal with with. Try and keep cool as much as you can.
Praying the AC gets fixed

Oh dear, pretty sure you are warranted a whiney Monday right now! If I didn’t have air this week, I would whine, kick and scream! Praying you are able to cool off soon!
My AC unit went out early (like 2:00am) on Friday, and we were without it all day. It was finally fixed by 7:00pm that night, and it was over 100 degrees outside…which put it at 95 degrees in the house. So, WHINE AWAY!!! It’s absolutely miserable to be without AC in the Summer!
Our air went out last week on the hottest day of the year for us. I think the high was 99. I feel your pain. Praying that God will provide for all of your needs and draw you cloesr to Him and make you more reliant on Him through this trial 🙂
Here is some love! I totally know! Ours went out in June and our house was CRAZY hot too! this has been quite a summer! We had to have our whole unit replaced. grrrrr!!! hope you get your fixed soon and it’s cheaper than ours was!
Rachel
I am praying that you get that air conditioner working. We have been through things like that before and I feel for you and your family.
You have a every right to whine so whine so more.
Blessings
Janet
I know how you feel! When my daughter was still a baby it was so hot our air conditioner couldn’t keep up, the heat was making her sick. We ended up going and staying at my moms. Is that an option for you? I pray that your ac gets fixed soon. Try a cool shower and playing outside in the pool!
Awww… I’m so sorry about that, Rachel! I know how you feel though. We just recently had a problem with one of our swamp coolers. It went out on us during *the* hottest week of the summer. :/ Definitely not fun. I hope yours is fixed SOON!

i’m so sorry rachel! we had to get a new a/c this summer…which mean living without cool air in our house for about three days. it was 100+ outside. eek.
hope you get it fixed soon!
Your AC is apparently an under-achiever!! Living in the south (Illinois IS south of MN!! 🙂 – we are adamant AC users – my hubby works all day in the heat and when he gets home – he likes it COLD. We’re going to have to toughen up though w/ moving to Texas….
Am praying for you right now, Rachel – may God give you the grace and strength you need every moment. Lamentations 3:22-26 – He is faithful.
Oh, HONEY! I’m a short trip from you down in IL and we’re suffering here. We were up in MN (Plymouth, Eden Prairie) two weeks ago and I was surprised that you had just about the same humidity as us.
Prayers, patience, and magical cool breeze vibes being sent to you. Our car’s AC is out and if my house AC was out, I think I’d have an emotional breakdown!
Take care,
Ann Marie
You’ll be in my prayers. Maybe the air conditioner was an over achiever. They usually crash. Hope it’s up and running soon.
I am sooo sorry! I hope it will get fixed soon. Depending on how hot it gets, sometimes air conditioners just go on strike … 😉 or so it seems.
Have a blessed week and I hope your air conditioner will be running again soon.
Blessings,
Kate
Oh, I love your humor. It really stinks that your air conditioner is broken though! I pray it’ll be fixed soon, and that while you wait on it, there’ll be cool breezes.
Annie
Oh my goodness! I hope you cool down soon!
Iced coffee is one of my favorite things. Ever.
Aaagh! I would be whining too. It’s about the same tempo in Michigan and I’ve been whining. And my air is working…
Hope it cools off quick!
Wishing you cool breezes from Colorado…….I’ve lived in Minnesota and the humidity alone can be difficult. Praying a cold front moves in from the west bringing ice cubes for dinner and ice cream for dessert!
I am sorry it’s so hot and the air isn’t working. Praying that gets fixed soon.
Know you are in my thoughts and prayers. We serve a very big God who is able. May you draw close to Him as He draws close to you. He will bring you through.
Oh my, I pray that it gets fixed now! Where’s the handy man when you need them! Anyone in the neighborhood handy with air units? I pray you & yours stay cool somehow. Hope that your Misc. Monday improves with the goodness of cool air.
Oh my! I hope it gets fixed soon! So sorry! My hubbys family lives in MinnSOOOOTa 🙂
#8 LOLOLOL Thank you for that. I’m so sorry about your AC though. 🙁 I hope it will be achieving very very soon. Praying. Love you. Blessings to you and the fam.
Oh, was the iced coffee good though?
I’ll join this club of AC horror stories…mine went out the 2nd week of July…then my son’s went out the next week…sooooo sorry!
yikes! the heat is SO hard to bear! Been there. Done That. In “Hotlanta” Georgia AND pregnant.
Hope you get it all fixed up soon.. or find a cool place to crash for a bit.
Ew. A broken air system is NEVER fun. We’ve had that happen to our family. Both with the air AND heat. That was bad because Iowa winters are COLD.
I know what you mean about the heat and humidity. I was at camp for 3 weeks and the last week was the hottest. One day it was about 99-100, but with humidity and everything it felt like 110. It was awful. The cabins were simply unbearable. I’m so glad for air conditioning… that is IF its working. 🙂 haha.
Hope you air is running again!!

Oh, poor poor Rachel’s family. I HATE being in a stuffy hot house! Ugh Ugh Ugh! Our air conditioner hasn’t been working right either. The next four days here in Kansas are supposed to be 101, 102, 104, 102. Man was not meant to live in 100 degrees! However, I would much rather live in 100 degree days than 0 or negative degree days. But hey, we get to do that too! YAY! NOT! 🙂
I hope it gets fixed FAST!
Love,
Lynnette
Got love from this end! And I’ll stay at this end, thank you very much! In Seattle where people melt when it hits 80s.
Always here praying!
Psalms 62:1-2 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

oh such hotness! ugh!!! i really hope its fixed… i know it can be so expensive!!! definitely praying for the Lord’s providence and provision in your lives. and hoping that today is much cooler for you, hot mama! if not, i believe this calls for an ice coffee overload.
My suburban AC went out Sat. on the start of a 7 hour drive – in 100+ degree weather. I know how you guys are feeling!
I like your use of this verse from Proverbs. If you have time, I wrote a post on it: http://warrenbaldwinbiblefountain.blogspot.com/2009/06/encouraging-word.html

Know that I’m still here praying!
Psalms 62:5-7 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
