We’ve been reading about the Mayflower, the Pilgrims, and Native Americans these first weeks of school. Every day, as I’d pull out the readers and books, Brennan would beg to start with History first. As I’d sit at the table reading page after page I’d look to see him enthralled — lost in his own thoughts about what it might have been way back then.
He was amazed at how much the little ones worked. Would they really let a boy my age use an ax? he’d ask. We talked about how and why the kids worked – hard and diligently. I think it motivated him.
Last Friday we made these teepees and wigwam {which was much more work — we had to stabilize the bottom with some reed type sticks from my garden} for our history project. Brennan and I looked through our books of teepees and art and decided to paint our teepees this way with colorful designs and stories. The sticks {poles} in the top are shoots from the tops of my massive oregano plant. Perfect, I think.
I love hands on learning and love it even more that Brennan has such an interest in history. For now, those teepees and wigwam art projects {found it in our My Father’s World Adventures Book}of ours sit on the top of my piano. I wonder what will be there next….off to pull out the history books and begin again today. Thankful for the love of reading and the love of history.

This year we saved a whole afternoon for History Fun just to make sure we get to projects such as these! Makes a difference!
I’m not a big history buff but those are my favorite people to talk to…I’m always intrigued. I love that he has such a love for history and is always ready to dive in 🙂
those teepees are so cool looking. all this about learning and hands-on makes me wish i was little again. : ) i guess one of the many benefits of homeschooling is learning this stuff all over again. love that! happy thursday sweet friend.
You’re a great mom! How fun that he already has a love of history. I love the teepees.
That is great that he is that into History. Many kids are not, and I was one of those. I now sit and watch the History channel and what not to learn all over again what I missed out on in school by not paying any attention. I love History now but wished that I would have back then.
What great projects! I know that he really enjoyed making those!
How amazing that Brennan is so excited about history!
Always here praying!
Psalms 46:7, 10-11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.(10-11) Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
