Last night our church — Living Hope — gathered to make sandwiches. Pieces of bread, with meat and cheese in the middle. Over 60 of us worked side by side, for an hour, putting together these sandwiches. A little over 1200 were made. All delivered to the homeless in Minneapolis.
There is a joy in serving that is forgotten in times of not serving. There was laughter as the sandwiches were moved down the line. There were stories. And prayers.
Hannah and Chloe made sandwiches.
And as we were leaving they told me, “I can’t wait until we can do it again.”
I could teach them about service. I could tell them how people need these sandwiches. We could talk all day. But really understanding service takes doing. It takes giving of one’s self, one’s time, one’s agenda. And that is what we did.

VERY true! 🙂
I did this once, and it really was a great experience!
Love, Makay
How awesome! God IS good.
That is such a wonderful experience for you and your children. I try to have my children volunteer for the same sort of activity – I think it will help them grow into caring people.
this is awesome. Giving your life away is where you find JOY in life. You can only inhale so much before you pass out, you’ve got to exhale (serve, give your life away) to keep growing 🙂
Nothing makes me happier than seeing Christ’s people meeting His beloveds’ relevant needs!
Thanks for making my day (and challenging me too!)
What a wonderful story and picture. The picture says it all. We are her to serve our Lord. What a life lesson you are teaching your children and reminding people like me that you can never serve too much. Thank you for that.
Blessings

Awesome…our 14 year old just came back from serving in the intercity and he said, “it truly is better to give than receive” I could tell in his face HE GOT IT… seeing them be Christ hands and feet is just a joy!!! It is always a reminder to me what it is all about!!!
Blessings to you and yours
Love this… it’s something we do as our little family in the winter months (bring them to the homeless shelter).
this is wonderful and awesome!
and also.. a lotta bread.. lol
Love this… leading by example.
Our church is very involved in feeding the poor. We use to do a free hot meal every Friday night, before we moved and no longer have a commercial kitchen. Praying that someday soon we will do this again. What a blessing you’ve been able to be to others through these simple displays of kindness.
Wonderful ministry!
What a great thing to do….Know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers!
Psalms 91:1-2 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Amein! He is so good! 🙂
My son took his youth group to visit with the homeless in a park in Cheyenne, WY this summer. His kids had a similar response – they want to do it again. Good work your church did in the name of the Christ.
