…..at 6:30am Sunday.
Who?
That would be me. Tomorrow morning. Heading on a plane with some sweet friends.
Going to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
It’s a blessing.
My ticket? Paid for via frequent flyer miles earned eleven years ago when I went to Alaska and from my trips to San Diego when we moved there. My place to stay? Free. Thanks to my dear friend Amy’s inlaws. It’s kind of a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
But, I’m nervous. About flying {yes, I’m the gal with the white knuckles gripping her seat}, and leaving the kids {haven’t left them in eleven years — when I went to Alaska — which, by the way, is breathtakingly beautiful}, and well, just leaving. But, I also know that this is a beautiful opportunity to rest. The last six months have been quite hard — from dealing with Samuel’s Celiac Disease diagnosis to my hubby’s business to the ongoing vehicle sagas to financial strain to just daily life — and I’ve been feeling very mentally and physically exhausted.
I am grateful for this trip.
Even though I’m nervous.
So tomorrow morning — think of me — as this momma of seven goes through the security gates {please don’t go off} and takes a plane from Minneapolis to Atlanta and Atlanta to Charleston, and says a teary good-bye to her wonderful kids — and I’ll be grateful.
Next update? From the beach.
{vehicle update — thankfully it was just the battery that needed replacing in our little Saturn. One vehicle fixed, one big one to go. In time. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement for me as I stared at two non-working vehicles in our driveway. I’m grateful.}

Have a wonderful time – I’m thinking of you but you’ll do great!
I have never been to Hilton Head (a friend of mine does though!), but I DO go to South Carolina alllll the time (my grandparents live there and we live in NC). However, I saw that you’d be flying to Charleston and oh. my. goodness. That place is BEAUTIFUL! We usually go there for our vacations (well acually Folly Beach which is connected to Charleston).
I hope you have a wonderful time on the East Coast!
^Sorry for that long comment. I just get really excited when people travel close to here and go somwhere that I’ve been before. ^_^
You will be very near to me! 🙂 I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting Hilton Head yet, but have many friends who have been there and say it is lovely. Hope you have a wonderful time recharging. -Rachelle
My family and I go to Hilton Head annually! You will have a great time! 🙂 Sometimes, it’s good to step away from daily life and just relax and reflect!
Praying that you will have a wonderful, restful time away. You deserve it. Put all of your worries in God’s hands. He’s got you girl, and He’s watching over all that concerns you.
Have a great relaxing time!!! You look beautiful in your pic, BTW.
Have a MOST WONDERFUL time…REST in the PEACE of the LORD…DRINK IN the GOODNESS and BEAUTY of HIS creation…ENJOY SWEET FELLOWSHIP with CHERISHED FRIENDS…

You’ll be in my thoughts and I hope you have a MARVELOUS and RELAXING time! There’s no place quite like the south. We love it down there. 🙂
Enjoy your trip!
You will be in my thoughts & prayers!
Yeah for you!!! I wish I was going too. I hope that you have a wonderful, relaxing time, you so deserve it.
I will be praying that your flights go well and that your family back home will stay safe and well and that they too will have a great week.
Enjoy-praising God that He cares about us and loves us so much that every detail was taken care of for you to be able to do this.
Hugs

Have a great trip! You will be passing through my neck of the woods {Atlanta} on your plane trip. 🙂
We love Hilton Head!!
What a wonderful opportunity! Praying that you have a peaceful and restorative time and return home utterly refreshed!
Hi Rachel,
I cannot think of another woman I know, at this time, that deserves this trip more than you, except my sister years ago when she was raising her 6 kids and home schooling them too!
Have a super great time and unwind. I’ll be praying you will be blessed.
Smiles,
<><
Hope you have a wonderful trip! Blessings!
Woo hoo!!! Rachel is flying in and out of Charleston!!! Woot woot! You’ll be so close I can just taste it. I really hope our meeting works out. : ) I hope your time away will bring a nourishment to your soul! So happy for you!!!
Oh enjoy you trip!
Well that’s just pretty neat! I know it’ll be hard, but you’ll have such a wonderful and refreshing time that you’ll be glad you did it.
Enjoy!
Lynnette:)
You so deserve this break Rachel. It’s good for us mommas to get away to rest and relax without the demands of home. I know you will miss your family. I am praying for peace for them all while you are away. Thankful to hear the car is fixed!
How wonderful for everyone to play a part in your going away on a little retreat. I know exactly how you must feel about leaving the children. It’s always hard for me to leave the littlest ones. I end up wondering if someone remembered to get our little 2 yo his blankie for bedtime, cause he loves it. Or did they remember to change his diaper as they laid him down. Or give him a snuggly hug from me….oh the many things that visit our hearts and minds when we are gone.
I pray the Lord will renew you and you will draw close to HIM.
Enjoy your very wonderful trip~ Cinnamon
p.s. when you return my husband will be HOME ~ Lord willing ~
Just don’t spend all your time being concerned about what’s happening at home while you’re gone. That would pretty much defeat the whole benefit of the trip! Enjoy yourself! Your hubby and kids can take care of themselves for that long and will appreciate you even more when you get home! For a day or too… ;o)
Most of all, have a fantastic time!!!!!!!!!!
Praying right now to the One who is with you always!
Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

i can sympathize with you on the flying
and on the reluctance to leave your kids.
this will be such a time of refreshment
and encouragement for you.
when flying, recite scripture to chase
away the fear. have a wonderful time.
I am so happy to read you are taking a vacation! Hilton Head is gorgeous. I’m not sure if you’ve been before, but if no, you are in for a treat, lady.
I have a business trip coming up I’m feeling nervous about. It’s always hard to leave the kids, but I think we do need the time to decompress. I hope you have a very relaxing stay and that the plane ride isn’t too terrible for you!
