Early this fall, prior to the never-ending cold that struck our family, I was given the magazine Aletheia to review. This magazine is a writing magazine aimed for Christian teens. It seems to have a bend towards fantasy type writing so you’ll have to make sure that your family appreciates that genre. However, there was a section of poetry which I appreciated. My favorite section was the portion on photography. Imagine that, me like photos?
Thoughts on Aletheia. Love the name — it’s Greek for unveiling or truth. Although the magazine is aimed at teenagers I believe that it’s really best for older teens. The issue that I received dealt with some hard issues and I’d really need to preview the magazine before handing it to my thirteen year old. I do like the writing challenges and prompts. As a homeschool parent it’s always a blessing to me to find new and interesting prompts for my older writers. And I love that the magazine is written by teens — I’m all about encouraging my writers to push themselves and strive to aim higher with their writing. Great potential.
Side note. My Hannah was a “model” for a line drawing by a friend of hers and that picture was published in a previous issues of Aletheia. Kind of cool. Oh yeah, and I took the picture. 🙂
Nitty gritty details. Aletheia Magazine costs $26 US {$29 Canadian} for four issues. Each issue is 40 pages and is printed on high quality paper. It’s quite beautifully done.
