Last winter I wrote about some rules that I’ve established. I’ve decided to continue on the rule theme and share with you some of my more “springy” rules.
my spring rules
:: feed the birds – even if it’s with a recycled pop bottle bird feeder
:: do not compare lawns (or anything at all) with your neighbors
:: if your lawn is more brown just wait and have a bit of patience…your lawn will eventually green up. If it doesn’t quickly go purchase Super Green at the Home Depot.
:: apply your fertilizer carefully so you avoid stripes — always remembering with gardening horror what your lawn looked like with stripes
:: take pictures of your daughters
:: always make a treasure map for easter baskets
:: continue to give Easter baskets to all of your children. Even those old ones.
:: thank your mother who still gives you your Easter Basket – with your favorite candies
:: buy bubbles
:: don’t care if the bubbles spill
:: do not buy the crayola colored bubbles unless you want stains everywhere
:: resist them even though they look so fun and if you do buy them invest in good soap or be ready to explain away the orange colored hands. 🙂
:: write the current year with the word – spring – in chalk on your sidewalk
:: try not to care if your little boys run barefoot when it is only 54 degrees
:: spend the day cleaning your garden beds
:: boil a dozen eggs for each child to decorate for Easter.
:: prepare to eat quite a few hard boiled eggs. (12x7kids =84 eggs)
:: let your kids hide the eggs for you
:: drive with the windows down
:: race with your kids while running
:: savor the returning health of Samuel (a new rule this year)
:: let your kids pick out plants for the garden
:: sit on the porch and read
:: take time to talk with your neighbors
:: make some lemonade with real lemons 🙂
:: wash your windows and then open them and let the curtains flap in the breeze
:: sit and watch your little ones laugh as they play outside
:: pump up the bike tires before they need to be used
:: try to ignore your allergies and just be thankful for the green
:: photograph buds in the days before they burst open
:: go for walks as a family
:: use the grill
:: pack away the winter stuff — but wash it first
:: watch the sunrise
:: smell the spring rain
:: swing
and really
:: embrace the beauty and life found in spring.

you make good rules!!! definitely a good rule for fertilizer… we can never seem to escape the stripes. and gorgeous spring photos of hannah – the one on her blog header is my favorite. that is such a cute pic of samuel. one sad thing about an egg allergy is no decorating eggs. : ( although, this way i’ll have less mess to clean. ; ) gotta look on the bright side! have a sweet week, my sweet friend!
love your rules! We just put fertilizer down this weekend.
Those are some wonderful “rules” indeed!!
Oh Rachel…I love how you capture life. I see that I’m following some of your rules: I was just talking to myself about not comparing lawns, love Easter baskets and got one from my mom well into my adulthood and loved it so I will do that for each child, I clean out a couple beds (and more to go), I rode into work with my windows down :), I sat and read on my porch yesterday evening, I chatted with both neighbors while the kids played, and we had steaks on the grill for dinner. Thanks for allowing me to capture the little moments.
We’re using the grill today for the first time. Yipeee!
I love your blog. I love the words, I love the pictures, I love the appreciation of life they all point towards. I linked up on my latest post to your beautiful letter to yourself from last week. It’s my inspiration for this week. 🙂
Thanks.
Yes, yes, and YES to all of it!!! The older I get, the more I am learning through the grace of God to TOTALLY ENJOY SPRING!(and every day for that matter!)
Thanks for the fun and uplifting post!
You have the most beautiful rules!
Love your rules! I especially like the one for the dozen eggs. Wow, that’s a lot of egg salad, egg sandwiches etc. 😉
I’m OBSESSED with this! Your daughter is so gorgeous and Samuel’s eyes?! Amazing!!
Love your entire list!
I LOVE your rules. I’m 27 and my sister is 23, and my mom still has us Easter egg hunt every year 🙂
ALL your lists inspire me!
Oh how I love your list of rules! 🙂
Wonderful list! But I can’t believe they’d make bubbles that stain! That’s crazy!
Continuing to lift up prayers!

I saw the title of your post and thought to myself, “Why Yes, It does!” And then, “Oh. THAT kind of rules.” 😀
P.S. Sam is too stinkin’ cute. That kid can rock the drooly chin like no other!
