1} In the summer one of our traditions is to have strawberry shortcake for dinner. Just that. Nothing else. Every year as the kick off to summer I’ll make shortcake — with heaps of strawberries {and sometimes raspberries and blackberries} piled high with hand whipped cream. Hannah published a beautiful photo journal of our kick-off to summer shortcake *here* including this most yummy looking photo. Of course, this was a very sweet thing.
2} This year I had to make gluten free shortcake. I used the gluten free Bisquick recipe {for convenience}, and it was good, but not amazing. I’m going to be searching for a more “almost tastes like it has gluten in it” recipe. Ideas?
3} Samuel loved the strawberries. He’d stand in the kitchen, look up at me with those puppy-eyes, and say, “mo-oh” — he kind of sounds like he’s from Boston when he says it. How could I say no?
4} My Chloe is so creative. She found this app for her ipod touch that lets you make old silent movies — and then adds the piano music. All weekend she’s been choreographing various movies. And finding props. Including this old table top {it used to have tiles in it} to use as a mock tv screen. I’m going to have to beg her to let me show you one — I just love them. 🙂
5} And speaking of Chloe — I was using her ipod touch {which I’m known to do — love the Scrabble App and Words with Friends} and hit the google search and saw a gluten free search still up. That she did. For me. For something she was going to make as a surprise. How sweet is that?
6} I was trying out Hannah’s new lens on Friday and Elijah told me he wanted to be “part of da pitch-ure, momma.” Remember — he’s three. For his “photo shoot” he decided to run from the fence, hang from the swing, and to just sit and stare. Too cute. And sweet.
7} And of course, I should end the post with a picture of my birthday girl on her birthday. I absolutely love this picture of Hannah and Samuel — my oldest and youngest. The bond between my children is priceless.
Have your own miscellany? link up with my dear friend Carissa and do share.
Hope your Monday is fabulous! And speaking of fabulous — remember — I’m looking for some gluten-free fabulous and sweet shortcake ideas. And remember to enter my give-away {thanks to blogher and gatorade} for the $100 giftcard to Dick’s Sporting Goods. {The giveaway button is on my sidebar.} I want one of you to win it! 🙂

Great photos! Your children are beautiful!
I love the last photo of Hannah and little Sammy. Such a beautiful portrayal of comfort in family and caring love between siblings. 🙂
Your blog posts are a blessing and your family is in my prayers.
With bright love,
Joni
Your family makes me want to have 7 children! : ) I love all those pictures and the Hannah/Samuel embrace is priceless. Elijah should be a model – it looks like he knows what he’s doing. And Chloe – how beautiful is she! Gorgeous prop, too. I insist, the movies must be shared. For my sake! ; ) The shortcake looks amazing, I hope you find a good recipe. I need to find a good egg free recipe so we can adopt your delicious summer dinner! Hugs to you all! Enjoy your summery week.
Precious!
Oh.my. How sweet is that Chloe!!!??? You are just so blessed and so are those little people of yours. How fun that you got to test out Hannah’s new lens 🙂 I adore strawberry shortcake and I’ll be on the lookout for a good glueten free recipe…if Chloe doesn’t find it first 😉
Rachel, my friend Lu battles Celiac and she is happy to share some recipes with me to pass on to you. 🙂 She is going through her recipes and will send some to me when she has them gathered. For now she wants me to share this peanut butter cookie recipe with you. Very simple! She says she uses Splenda and that may be why hers are a little crumbly, but with sugar they probably would not be.
Gluten Free Peanut Butter Cookies
1 c. peanutbutter
1 c. sugar or splenda
1 egg
Mix inredients together and drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 8 min.
The pics in this post are amazing, as always. Such a beautiful family! <3
Gracie and I love the pics of your little Elijah. He looks like Hannah. All your children are sweets! God is so good to give us children to enjoy.
love,
Grace and Bridget

You might look at Laura’s blog at Heavenly Homemakers. She was making some yummy foods with coconut flour. Maybe that would improve the shortcake?

Great pics…you have some adorable children.
Beautiful shots!
My daughter and I are gluten free and I’ve loved subscribing to ‘Living WIthout.’ They have a bi-monthly magazine with great flour combos that work well in baking. Check out livingiwthout.com
Also, I new book that I love is ‘The Allergen-Free Baker’s Handbook’ by Cybele Pascal.
Those might not be new to you, but thought I’d mention them.
Love your blog; you always encourage me!
so glad carissa led me to your blog! i’m just starting out with gluten free (and also casein and soy free) cooking for my son so i’m a complete mess with it all. it’ll be fun to see what has worked for you!
you children are beautiful…and talented, too! and yes, the bond between siblings is so wonderful.
happy monday to you!
What beautiful children! It’s so sweet that your daughter was looking for a gluen-free recipe! I hope you find lots of great recipes that work perfectly for your family! Have a wonderful week! 🙂 Deb @ LivingMontessoriNow.com
I have to say not only is your family beautiful, but they are amazingly talented too! Hannah is an phenomenal photographer already…can’t wait to see what she continues to do!
Your children are too precious. Seeing your littlest enjoying his strawberries, your youngest gal exploring creativity with video making, your oldest daughter into photography, and your other little man enjoying being in pics. Gosh, this makes me kinda ache for a bigger family;0….more work, but, more preciousness everyday! And strawberry shortcake is hands down one of my favorite desserts!
i love your strawberry cake tradition! bet the
kids do, too!
my oldest is 27, and he has always had a very
special bond with his youngest sister, who is
19. as they get older, the bond increases,
which is my chief happiness.
well, after the love for my Saviour and husband.
