It’s Monday. Monday, Monday, Monday. Again.
1. This miscellany will probably be very short. Here’s why — my great plans to write a witty, clever, cute, encouraging, and enjoyable Monday post never transpired due to me, the mom, coming down with some cold. And let me tell you, when you’re a mom of seven children there is not much time for the mom to be sick.
2. little house. We’re still on our Little House on the Prairie kick. Right now? The beginning of season 5. We just finished watching the episodes where Mary went blind. I don’t think there were any dry eyes in my family room. It also makes me grateful for medicine — my Brennan had scarlet fever {from strep throat that we didn’t know he had till he got the rash} but was put on antibiotics within a day. That episode gets me every time — watching Charles and Caroline deal with the heartbreak of watching Mary go blind. And then the tough choices they would have to make {that’s why I included this pic — I’ve been wanting to use it forever — such an illustration of choices.}
3. duck tales. Before I went to Nashville I stopped at Costco and picked up a little gift for the kids to enjoy when I was gone. Secret. I used to watch this when I was young and I might have been just as excited to watch this as my kids were. Best part? The $9.95 price tag.
4. luggage. When I left Nashville I had 4 bags. Two bags to check, one rolling carry-on, and a large handbag {the camera was in it as well as some other things}. As I was pulling the 2 bags to check — which were probably 40+ pounds each — the carry on pulling thing snapped off. This is why this is now a search term on my computer. Words of wisdom — one must have a suitcase that has the appropriate pulling mechanism especially 3 months after shoulder surgery.
5. colors in winter. Hannah took these pictures of Gracie. Somehow the white of the snow creates this beautiful pop of colors. Or else it’s the crazy hat.
6. eggs. Here’s one more picture of Samuel helping me make scrambled eggs. Yes, I let him stir the eggs and yes, it was a mess. Was the mess worth it? In that moment, yes again, as he was so proud of his eggs. Being a parent isn’t always about being neat — there are moments in the journey where we must allow creativity and independence to flourish. Even if it means there will be a mess.
7. arrival of winter. It’s here. In March. And that? Not fair. It feels like it’s January outside right now and my yard {which has been bare most of the winter} has a good foot of snow covering it. Oh well, my younger kids are thrilled. They can hardly wait to get outside each day so that they can work on their snow forts.
8. urgent replaced with real. Thank you for all your encouraging comments regarding yesterday’s post. Samuel is just in that priceless stage of wanting to give hugs and mooches. In fact, this morning, he was content to sit on my lap for a good 30 minutes and peppered that time with his sloppy kisses. Sigh. To read it click HERE.
And that’s it for today. I need to start some hot tea brewing {and then take Chloe to ballet} and pray that this cold just stays a cold. Any randoms from you? Please do share about your weekend, my friends. 🙂 Off to put Duck Tales in for the littles…
I’m linking with Carissa, my miscellany monday, in-real-life friend.

Well let’s try this again, ha!
Commenting Miscelleny 🙂
1. Years ago my four-year-old also ended up with Scarlet Fever after a bout of undiagnosed strep. It was the sickest either of my children have ever been. I thought over and again how fortunate we are for antibiotics and modern medicine.
2. It’s winter here, too. Every third or fourth day, anyway. My daffodils are confused.
3. Love, love Little House. However, it makes me cry every. single. time.
4. Love Real. Dislike urgent.
5. Hope you feel better SOON 🙂
the hat- my favorite. 🙂 Have a marvelous Monday!!
So the irony of your children doing ‘ducktales’ while we were doing ‘duckface’ was not lost 😉
Feel better sweetness xxxx
So jealous of the icicles and snow. It is like Spring here in the East and I just only got one good snow day. Trade ya!
Ducktales is the best. I love finding things from my childhood and letting my siblings have it now! So fun and rewarding. I hope your cold stays as a cold! I’m just getting over one and it’s no fun!
I’m waiting for my Netflix DVD to come in the mail today. It’s another 4 episodes of the “Road to Avonlea” tv series. I went to listen to a missionary speak yesterday after church. Some friend’s invited me to go and I thought “why not?” Talk about “random” meetings. There was a lady I sat next to, who had really nice hair color. So I asked her about it. It turns out she’s a hairstylist here in town, about a mile from my home. So now I’ve got an apointment with her on Wednesday to get a haircut (which I really, really need 🙂 That’s my random experience for the weekend 🙂 Have a great week. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂
Hope you feel MUCH better friend!
I can totally hear the Duck Tales theme song music in my head! It was one of my favorites…they just dont make cartoons like that anymore 🙂
Lifting up prayers right now!
Psalms 28:8-9 The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed. Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.
