21 “Battles” I’ve Stopped Fighting
Just for fun. And some truth. Letting go is beautiful.
1. Trying to get my middle schooler to not wear shorts in the middle of winter.
2. Getting frustrated at the person in line who doesn’t move forward when there is a clear gap and the line could move forward, even if a foot.
3. Attempting to tear the plastic wrap in a straight line. Or in that case, also attempt to get a plastic bag at the grocery store opened on the first, second or third time.
4. Finding matches to several dozen stray socks.
5. Pretending to understand the memes my kids think are funny.
6. Picking the faster lane. Anywhere. Target, school pick up, bank. Inevitably there will always be a mixup in the lane I choose
7. Perfect eyeliner.
8. Thinking I don’t need a shopping list and that “I’ll just remember when I get there…”
9. Trying to get the lid on a too full glass of soda without liquid seeping onto the top of the lid.
10. Getting offended at other drivers who honk, give the bird, don’t follow the rules, don’t use their turn signal, drive slow in the fast lane, cut in line or are simply annoying.
11. Wrinkles. The creams just make me feel better, but don’t take away. Hair coloring is amazing. If only the wrinkle cream industry could learn from them.
12. Remembering every password. Too many rules, too many times of “use special characters” and “no special characters” and so forth. Maddening.
13. Needing to be right. I’ve learned so often that my perspective is the one that needs a reset.
14. Getting frustrated over cabinet doors that are left open. Or bags of cereal with 1/4 cup left. Or milk containers with barely a drop. Now I just try to tell myself, “be grateful for those kids…” as I remind them again for the millionth time to shut the doors. Please see attached picture for evidence. And at least they loaded the dishwasher, right?
15. Feeling guilt over taking time for myself.
16. Opening any fruit container without spilling.
17. Feeling that I’m caught up on laundry, dishes or any other household chore. Instead I’m choosing to be grateful that I have chores I get to do.
18. Comparing my life to my friends. I want to be the friend cheering so loudly for my friends when they win and the one listening when they’re down.
19. Any type of couponing.
20. That my van would stay clean for more than two days. Again, this is like number 14, where I just remind myself to be grateful.
21. Putting my hair in a cute messy bun that looks good and not just, well messy, like most of mine do.
And that’s it. At least for now.
And well, it was inspired after I looked and saw the above mentioned middle schooler in shorts when it was 29. He was one of two.
Love,
~Rachel
