I listen.
I listen to the doubts in my head.
I listen to the joys.
I listen to them breathe.
I listen to them argue too.
I listen to their dreams.
I listen to their complaints.
I listen to conversations.
I listen to advice.
I listen to many thoughts.
I listen for the sound of the dryer ending.
I listen to it’s not fair cries.
I listen to laughter. Much laughter.
I listen to others.
I listen to the hum of the dishwasher.
I listen to math facts.
I listen.
I listen to you’re the worst mom ever.
I listen to I love you mom.
I listen to my fears.
I listen to keyboards clicked.
I listen to humming and ABC’s sung.
I listen to I’m hungry cries.
I listen to coughs.
I listen to heartbeats.
I listen to debates.
I listen to worry in my head.
I listen to feet going up and down the stairs.
I listen to balls dribbled.
I listen to teachers sharing.
I listen for blocks tumbling.
I listen and count time to the thunderclap.
I listen for the school bell.
I listen for the buckle of the seatbelt.
I listen to their stories.
I listen to constant noise.
I listen to wrapping torn.
I listen to sleeping sounds.
I listen.
I listen for words of thanks and it often feels silent.
I listen for tassels flipped.
I listen for the door to open again.
I listen.
I love, so I listen.
I listen now because one day it will be still.

That gave me chills. So true. One day there will be silence replacing this constant blaring noise. Thanks for the reminder Rachel. Xo
The quiet is deafening. Insomnia has moved in to take the place of the hyper awareness of children at home, or the anxious waiting for growing children to be home. I’m saying it has no end, it just morphs into another thought, worry, then prayer. Would we have listened to our elders if they tried to warn us? I think not. Will those who follow us listen to
our warning? I think not. So let us embrace and encourage those that walk the same path of motherhood. We are united in our journey.
I read this in yr 2016. I read this this afternoon and I still feel the exact same way, yet…so very different. I will forever remember these words. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome.
